The track was very unsuitable for overtaking. Tight chicanes with walls don't get much overtakes done.

This I agree with. The Gen2 car looked fast enough on the fast parts of the track, having such tight chicanes should no longer be necessary. I’m pro-FE remaining on street circuits, but that doesn’t mean they need to be like kart tracks.

It is a bit odd how teams go from zero-hero-zero-hero.

Addressed this earlier.. that’s not really the case. There is still a general pecking order, but because the field is reasonably closely matched and the race weekend is compact if a particular team goes the wrong way on set up or software or a particular track doesn’t suit their car it’s likely to have a bigger impact.

The qualifying system is sh*t.

In what way? I definitely like superpole, you get to see the full lap of the top six so you don’t miss anything. The group stages do often penalise the championship leaders but that should mean more overtaking in the race.

It's not true that teams goes from hero to zero neither.

BMW, Audi, Mahindra powertrains were always on top of the game since Marrakesh, with at least one driver.

Now Venturi has closed in, while DS remains inconsistent as hell with Techeetah.

Middle pack: Jaguar, Geox

Backmarkers: HWA, NIO.

The pecking order is quite clear.

Qualifying for me is generating a grid order. I really liked the old F1 format with 1 hour and get your lap in. The 12 lap limit was to save tires and prevent drivers hogging the track. Now you can end up in the wrong group in a track you can't overtake without damaging something. Most FE tracks are particular for Gen1, but are too tight for Gen2.

Caught up with the race yesterday....

I accidently found out the winner beforehand but I had no idea how Lucas won the race. Don't think I could have scripted what happened.

It was just mega. I DO like pure hard racing, and that's EXACTLY what we got before the final few laps. The top 3-4 cars pushing very hard, nice and close to each other (because they can actually follow each other) and they were all from different teams.

Then, it got chaotic which is what you want isn't it? You don't want to be able to predict the winner when there's 10 laps to go and you want races to go to the very last lap don't you? If you don't, do you want entertaining motorsport?

(And I do love fuel energy races) - just like Rossi at the Indy 500

Not anymore. Absolutely a valid point with the old lottery system, but under this system it's decided by championship order. You are always in the right group (by which I mean in with the same chance as your championship rivals).

I was never a fan of the 1 hour qualifying in F1, there's no climax to it, I much preferred the the old 1 lap each format - at least in the final stages. Though something about the championship leader being given an advantage in going last (unless there was rain) never quite made sense to me somehow. I just think as qualifying formats go, FE has one of the better ones out there.

Funny, I loved the build up in the 1hr format and loathed the 1 lap qualy. :p

I will admit, going through the whole field one by one was a bit dull. But when it got the the final stages there was a really nice building tension and you get to see the finer details of every lap in its entirety. In that sense SuperPole is great because you get that but only for the top 6 from the group stages.

I don't really mind too much what they do with the group stages part, anything from what they have now to a straight timed session would probably be acceptable to me. It's SuperPole that is the real winner here.

As to Qualifying: I'm surprised it's not set up with random groups from which the top two cars in each advance to SuperPole. That would seem to be most fair because track evolution would not penalize early runners as much.

I think Formula 1's qualifying format is excellent. But, if they were to change to what I just described, it might mix up the grid a bit more while still putting the fastest cars on the top few rows.

By build up you mean the 35-40 minutes of nothing happening whilst all the teams waited to see who would be first out to clean the track. It was extremelly dull.

I loath 1 lap qually as well though, I really enjoy watching drivers trying to respond to each others efforts.
