In absolute time yeah, but he didnt contest the 1980 and 1981 seasons

It's a good point. Hill and Hamilton have the record for the gap without a break and for seasons competed between wins whilst Lauda has the record in absolute time.

Dei volente, we should see a new record set for Lowest Number Never To Appear In A World Championship Race.

The current record is 63.  George Russell should get that sorted.

Not sure what the next number will be - 70 was never used at Indy in its WC era, because no number ending in 0 other than 10 was allowed, for fear of confusion in lap charting, and few European races went that far.  One that did (Italy 1952) saw no. 70 (Charles de Tornaco) non-qualify.  And Germany '51 did the German thing of giving every entry at a meeting a unique number, so the GP racers started at 71 and went all the way to 94.  The only non-starter was David Murray (89) and that number was used by Basement Bessie at Indy.

It means that, if 70 has been used, the only unused number left is 96.

16 more wins for Lewis to equal Michael Schumacher's record. Who would have thought that at the end of 2012?

Quite scary really.

And yet there is still a long way to go in reality. I can remember when Rossi was going to break all the records in MotoGP. Suddenly it stopped!

If Lewis does it he will have maintained his level for a remarkable amount of time. It would be quite some achievement and not the formality I guess some may see it as.
