Chandhok is that nerd that knows it all and it's not like the guy has driven for top teams and knows how it is to be involved in a championship battle. Ted neither, but he was very informed and shared the right information during the broadcast, countless times they asked Ted for some information about stops/strategies/problems and you miss that right now.

No sign of a Qualifying Notebook on the EPG.

How is that Liberty decided to axe Kravitz from Sky?  That was Sky's call.  If anything it's because F1 put Kravitz in another show that people will have more of him.  I'd agree the midweek show is pretty clunky but it has potential.

It's just the old "any thing that's wrong with F1 right now must be down to Liberty" mentality.

Though, that's not what he said.

Sky have removed him, while Liberty have turned him in to an awkward presenter.
So between them, Sky and Liberty have managed this.

The way it was written was that there was no Notebook and Liberty had a hand in it.

So between them, Liberty and Sky have managed to remove the only actual decent part of Sky's broadcast

The implication being Liberty "removed", his words, Kravitz from Sky thus killing the Notebook and further implying they conspired to do it.  The Notebook was dead when Kravitz got fired.  Liberty putting him on another show is irrelevant to the Notebook getting cancelled.  As a TV personality Kravitz was awkward well before he was hired by FOM.

Of course, when you cut off quotes you can get different meanings. I am sure you know the immediate word following your cut-off point was "and". Which in this situation would be a key word.

Not what I said and not what I meant. I can only defend what I did say, not what I didn't say.

Ted is a slightly awkward presenter, which is why his role as a roving reporter worked quite well, and obviously as a presenter of a half an hour sit down format would just not work at all. We could have seen that a mile off. The Welsh guy who did C4's anchoring, could do that well, but Ted.. .Leave him where he was, it doesn't matter if he works for Liberty or Sky, get him in the garages during difficult moments and get him asking questions.

Watching a repeat of the midweek debrief.

It’s Ted-lite really isn’t it.

I take you at your word it's not what you meant.  You get slack cut if you aren't a native English speaker.  English is difficult enough to write for native speakers.  For example their, there and they're.  It may not have been what you meant but grammatically it's what you typed.  Here's why...

The word "removed" is the verb referring to a subject.  In this case the subject is "Liberty and Sky" which has the verb "removed" applied to both parties.  In terms of grammar construction you've included both parties in removing Kravitz from his Sky deal.  The word "and" is a conjunction and joins the two parts of the sentence.  Using a conjunction has no impact on the relationship between the subject and verb in the first part of the sentence.

Here's what I see is the most likely version of what happened.  I may not be right but it's what my spidey senses tell me.

Kravitz get the boot.

Kravitz then gets FOM gig.

Big uproar from fans toward Sky.

Sky decides let's bring him back in a limited fashion.

Kravitz still keeps gig making hostage videos with Smedley in addition to 13 Sky gigs.

I watched Sky's Bahrain qualifying shows live yesterday and CH4's recorded version later, if anything I preferred CH4's show, there were fewer mistakes and cockups and more technical info, in fact I do not remember any technical details at all in any of Sky's output !

Without Ted it seems Sky are no longer able, or interested in, giving us fans the technical details we desire.

If Ted is not going to do his Notebook I fear the worst and dread Sky putting him in a studio setting. As many others have said we need Ted in the Pit Lane and wandering aimlessly around all the bits we would never otherwise get to see.

Here is a thought... Did Scott Young try to get rid of Ted because he was becoming too popular, too big a personality and completely out shadowed his fellow presenters ???   :stoned:

To be honest, being a non-native myself, I find it's usually Americans of all ages who are struggling with those three. I'll throw in some were and we're, it's and its, your and you're. Also, they tend to be monoglot apart from a few Spanish restaurant words.
Butchering those simple words is more the product of a lackluster linguistic culture than the native vs non-native discriminator, in my humble opinion.

Nice to see that in this horrid age of pay TV, viewer's outrage actually matters. It's not just advertisers calling the shots.
Quite awkward all, I can imagine.
Might Ted be on his way to Murray Walker levels of fame?
Perhaps, if it's indeed his style appealing so much to viewers around the world (I'm no Brit), there might be a future for him with a new broadcaster hitting the scene. Say, Amazon. They did the Grand Tour thing which in my opinion seems to work out well enough. A more Ted centric F1/broad racing coverage. Would you watch that over Sky given similar availability and cost? I just might, as long as he manages to keep the Ted dialed to medium or so.

Sky's production this year is just off and actually kind of hard to watch for the most part, yet I liked it the last few years.  Ted is a big part as a lot little things are missing, so are the rest of them not sitting right with only Johnny still his normal self.  Everyone else seems super stiff and "held" back from their own personalities... Damon is Damon but even he seems off this year.  Martin seems annoyed.  Paul's ok but with everyone just off, makes for a tough watch.

Ted would be definitely be a welcome addition.  I almost stopped watching now post race, zero interesting things other then Ant on the review slow mo stuff and comparisons.

Without competition on coverage it'll only get more stale.  Right now it's watch the Quali/Race then catch the few good bits on Youtube etc later on.

Hopefully Ted is gonna be bang on form this weekend though.

Now that's my problem with Ted (watching FP1 for the Chinese GP right now).  He's just mentioned new Mercedes upgrades which have been on the car since Australia.

Ted nailed that post race interview with Binotto.  Very professional, perfect leadup questioning to Charles team order call.   Chandhok simply too much a loof to every handle a situation like that in the manner that Ted.

Watching Ted during this weekend reminded how much better the broadcast is with his involvement.

Ted posted a video to his YouTube channel today ... for the first time in 3 years, so it looks like he's decided to get more active there. Hopefully this is the beginning of much more from Ted on this front!

I often miss his Notebooks these days because one race there is one and the next one there isn't. Are there still qualifying Notebooks btw? I think the ones I have seen this year were race Notebooks, which are always a lot less entertaining than his qualifying ones.

Nope. It isn't. Not enough Ted, and maybe a bit muted as well. It also seems like they've asked him to try to turn the 'hype' up to about 15 on a scale of 10 on Sunday before the races, which he doesn't seem at all comfortable doing. They seem to be edging him out in favor of Karun Chandhok, which is a baffling choice indeed imho. I like Karun, but I can't see anything he brings that Ted doesn't already do better, and it's not as if they were short of ex-drivers. Indeed it seems to me like they want Karun in a sort of technical role for which he seems ill-equipped. Ted was better at that as well. Karun has already been embarrassingly corrected on air multiple times this season by Paul and Ant, regarding things that many people here in this forum would have easily gotten right.

It's pretty bizarre imho, frankly. Given Ted's popularity and Karun's shortcomings, I can only presume that Sky exec that wanted Ted gone just had it in for him for some reason or another.

Yeah I really miss the Qualy Notebooks. It gave us a good look at the Paddock environment of each circuit, and Ted wandering around there was where the magic always happened.

Hopefully Ted's youtube channel will allow for a continuation of that in the future. I mean, if Joe freaking Saward somehow seemingly has unlimited lifetime Paddock access for God only knows what reason, surely Ted can continue to get Paddock access even if he leaves Sky ... right?

If your Liberty you get him signed up as quick as possible and give ted an official qualy and race notebook plus a technical based programme. They could surely get him better access than sky and help spread people to their social media channels.

I know if Teds notebook popped up on my facebook feed id watch it through.

Absolutely, 100%. That would probably even spur me to sign up for F1TV. They definitely need something more than useless Buxton running his trap. Fingers crossed.

Off-topic, but F1TV is in dire need of an own coverage. They already have Alex Jacques as a alternative commentator to sky in the pitlane channel. Given that they also have Palmer, Smedley, Buxton and Kravitz making content for FOM in the aftermath I'd love to see them pulling those guys together (with some additions maybe) for a proper race day coverage, especially if Sky ends up letting go of Kravitz.

Is Ted officially gone? I don't really mind, as I might be in the minority here, but Karun does a good job, and places himself in the pits better than Ted did. I don't think Ted was particularly talented, just more familiar. He wasn't any more informed on the technical side than you and I, just closer to the action. In comparison, a guy like Steve Matchett, though out of the sport for a long time, brought a lot more tech know-how than Ted ever did. I think Karun is more in touch with the goings-on of F1, though we haven't really seen a lot of evidence of that in the broadcasts.

No. Pimpwerx, he has by no means gone. I think the narrative is that one of the mandarins at Sky doesn't like him for some reason, but his attempt to get rid of Ted met with howls of objection (quite rightly in my view).

Ted was at Monza, for example and in you search 'Italian GP: The Notebook' on Sky, I recall he said that he'd be back soon (Japan?... can't quite remember). In the meantime, he's very involved in the W-Series. Check

I have to disagree with all of that. Ted is usually much quicker to find out information when in the pitlane, he goes and speaks to the team's and asks them. Karun seems more often than not to guess rather than give a straight answer.

His last Notebook, for me, showed just how popular he is in the paddock - even Lando admitted he watches “is Teds Notebook back?!” - stating he will watch it later. I like Will Buxton - but Ted does add a different level of informed fandom.

He should be building out his YouTube channel, certainly. Collaborating with a Nico / Jolyon perhaps...
