And this one - those rotten geese were everywhere. And what they leave behind...

I'd love to meet up some time Lynton - talk about the old film days - I took over 6600 images on the weekend. These are not necessarily the best of them, but I'm certainly not shy of some culls.

But thanks for the kind words. Coming from you...

In the later part of Sunday, there was a goose wandering around near turn twelve. Jim Doig said it was on the inside near the flagpoint during the Sports Car race, but when we were watching the Q and R Racing cars, it was grazing the edge of the grass up against the kerb, right at the place you aim for on exiting the corner. It did’t lift its head once, in the whole race, with cars just a couple of feet away. They held a local yellow out for the first two laps and then took it in once everyone was aware. 6600 images on 35mm 36 shot film rolls is over 183 cassettes. You’d need an assistant to carry your bags!!!

Good to see Wayne Rogerson is still out there...

And that's a good pic of Norm Beechey, too, shows he's still out and about.

There was a pair of them grazing at Honda on and off the whole weekend. Plus one in the campground again just grazing. Hello Mr Goose and it looked up and then continued grazing. I think they are very acclimatised to the cars and people.

The Stubber A9X [ex Harvey] was black flagged I think every start. Did not come out for the last one. Fairly easy to see why.

And it is 2+ sec slower than his Camaro GpN.  And is on slicks in comparison to those very skatey Hoosiers the big cars are all stuck using.

Jim Richards too was black flagged at least once, 31 BMW. I presume for oil leaks as well though I did not notice the smoke from that car.

Phillip Island evolves each year with a fresh section of additional concrete to make marshalling of the huge fields easier.

Shown here is the Friday afternoon marshalling of the ever popular Historic Formula Fords - celebrating 50 years of FF in Australia at this meeting.

2019-PI-Classic-Formula-Ford-TNF.jpg

The morning session came to an abrupt holt when an FF competitor hit the wall at the top of the front straight.

There was a large presence of old Touring Car drivers at this year's meeting and as such cars relating to their era. Here's a couple of Torana L34's on display during Friday.

This year I spent more time talking, less time shooting. But still have some to share, just be gentle with me, the AF an my tele lens went AWOL, and as a result the tele shots may be a little soft.

Great to see a new participant in TNF PI Classic photos.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the BRG Cooper S in the background is the car used extensively in Shannons TV and print media campaign. Now on Club Permit rego, but was JUM 850 with much early club competition in the hands of John & Gary Birt for its first 15 or so years.

Post 72. Wonderful shot encapsulating the body language of the Repco Holden at full chat. Enough of everything to make it perfectly balanced, but not that extra bit to make it fall off the bitumen. All down to the driver's right foot, which is what our sport is all about.

There’s an explanation of the car’s name,
in a potted history by Conor Ryan,
on Bob Williamson’s ‘Old Motor Racing Photographs’ facebook group.
And some pretty heated discussion about its history on a later post.
Just go to the facebook group above and search ‘Elgaram’.

Its called drifting,, and tyres with no grip!

Those pics of Stubber below is an exercise in understeer while trying to drift! He also races late model speedway cars, and is all over the place in that.

The orange Camaro was built by Roger Oliver, whom I went to school with. It was a lovely car but looking a bit beat up now. Though driven quite well

Those cars are fairly evil on those tyres. Bias belt junk. BUT they are fast, Stubber is 3 sec a lap faster in the Camaro than in the GpC John Harvey A9X. And that is on slicks.

Ed, Thanks for the photo of the Mini. It's an Australian-built Osmond & Saxon Green Morris Cooper,997cc, probably of 1962 or 63 production. As several here could confirm a popular colour of the day. If indeed it's still running the 997 then very rare indeed, as so many have been re-engined. Coopers were all single tank and sliding window doors, prior to Oz Cooper S production. I realise it's a personal thing, but just wish they didn't put (possibly) reproduction Newton Commercial UK style trim in an Australian Cooper though.

As for the Mazda, I recall this car sitting for years in Max Kirwan Mazda showroom in Preston, Melbourne. Makes a 997 Cooper look common though.

Can't take credit for the dawn shots. From the lens of Lynton for those (and many others).

Stephen

March 67 SCW ran the cover, just needed a young lady from the crowd to stand at the passenger door for the authentic look. Full page Mk7 advert appears in October 66 SCW.
