Amongst all of the Indy 500 frenzy, there has been an encouraging update from Robert Wickens. Nothing but love and admiration for the guy.

I’m not that clever, Max. It was the Juncos news, better posted in the Indy topic. :chug:

Made my picks, then found out I had 3 ECR drivers and decided that might not be the Best course of action. On the other hand it could end up be the winning move... hmmm?

Newgarden and Jones to me seem overpriced.  Herta seems underpriced.

Jon's second selection is the same as mine for the moment but yeah, it doesn't feel quite right.

After Carb Day I’ll have what I reckon I’d like.
Maybe.

Gotta throw a wild card in there just for fun though.

4 drivers just does not seem enough in a field of 33!

I'm gonna wait until after Carb Day I think...

It's a crapshoot.  Bad pit stop.  Rain.  Speeding on pit lane.  Getting caught up in someone else's brain fade.  Rain.

I'm going with 1 Penske, 1 Carpenter, 1 Andretti, 1 what-the-heck.

And then Oriol Servia will win a rain-shortened 104 lapper because he didn't pit when everyone else did.  And that will be fine too.

DVR note: ESPN is airing it's "30 for 30" documentary on Janet Guthrie Tuesday night at 7:00 CDT, with a replay to follow at 8:30, in case you're not motorsported out by that point.

Posted this in the 500 Run-Up/Testing thread in response to a post by JP, um, questioning the 10-vs-4 driver selections this year in the fantasy game.

"Asked/beeyotched at Fantrax about it and was told to email IndyCar, which responded thusly:

"'This year, in order to keep the game simpler for both hardcore and casual fantasy racing fans, INDYCAR and FanTrax have chosen to run the standard four-driver, $100 budget for the 103rd Indianapolis 500.

"'However, your feedback for re-introducing last year’s ten-driver, $500 budget has been duly noted. Following the Indianapolis 500 and on into the offseason for 2020 preparations, our INDYCAR digital strategy team will work with FanTrax to determine the best style of game to play for the 2020 Indianapolis 500.'"

So picking 10 drivers at once apparently is a bit too deep for some players. Not in our league, of course, but still ...

Simpler? More drivers on your team is more chances to score. Or miss. What could be simpler?

Dinner With Racers has a great discussion with her. She was quite a prodigy.

I actually think that picking ten drivers for the Big Show is a better option for keeping the game close. As it stands, you have more chances to have a driver score minimum points in this race than others, which is especially damaging on a double-points weekend. Likewise, this race is much more competitive than Laguna and Sonoma ever were, so from an outsider's perspective it's more likely for cheaper picks to nail a good result, which makes the high salaries for the better drivers here less justified. If they're going to stick with four drivers, then everybody's salary should only vary by like $1-3, not $8.

But I'm invested way too much in this for somebody who hasn't been to the Speedway in more than ten years, and never for its biggest race.

Yeah, this is pretty much a make or break weekend fantasy-wise--with double points an early exit for your drivers leaves way too much of a gap to make up the rest of the year unless you're letter perfect.
