Wait, this IS an IndyCar thread, yes?

It’s on topic.  Dale Coyne owns a string of BBQ joints...

Guilty! That and the '08 Moto GP scrap between Rossi and Stoner.

Edwards schooled Rossi at the corkscrew when MotoGP returned to Laguna Seca.

That was in '05, his first visit there.

Well, to recap, most who watched it live enjoyed it. Imperial, on the basis of the highlight reel, found it lacked a certain je ne sais quoi, a view that was roundly criticized in these parts. YMMV. I should warn you, however, that the track itself is vaguely pear-shaped . . .

criticizing roundly something pear-shaped is bound to find some euclidean incongruences...

The IndyCar thread strangely went all F1 for a short moment.

I criticised the highlights, i.e. the package itself, but it was misconstrued as some outrageous slur against the almighty IndyCar. Which, ahem, I have been watching since 1993. (Thanks Nigel).

But all is well again.

I evidently missed the beginning of the IndyCar thread's devotion to Karen Gillan.  Doctor Who overlap?  Love of redheads?  I have no issue with the choice, but since it's a slow week, would anyone mind reminding us how we got here?

It was a tie-in with an old sponsor of Simon Pagenaud's in 2013? Is that right?

Pags and Sam Schmidt were running a livery for a company called Oculus (co-owner Ric Peterson's co) at the same time Queen Karen put out a movie by the same name. The rest is history.

I only remember the advert for the movie where Karen's mindlessly eating an apple and hears it go crunch and looks down and apparently she's mistakenly picked up a lightbulb off of the kitchen table instead of an apple. I always wanted to see the movie just to see if they actually could plausibly pull off that silliness. I mean, it's not that I don't get my liquids confused every morning and accidentally pour coffee into my cereal, but come on -- an apple and a light bulb have dissimilar weights!

It also occurred to me that you probably couldn't put a scene like that in a movie anymore, because all of the LED lightbulbs I've bought recently are plastic, no longer glass.

So uh, yeah, when's that next race start again?

That's one way to keep IndyCar attendance 'manageable' I guess.

At least for the first year, ticket sales for both are pretty decent.

I’m going to ASSume Luca is in Italy where a bar is different than the US.  There is alcohol but it’s more like panini, espresso, pastries.  The booze isn’t so much the focal point.  In the US it would be like an artsy coffee house that had food and some booze.

Aha!

I hadn't made the link, I just thought he had a cool sounding name.

Best espresso I ever had was in Italy. Not particularly the taste, more just the cafe (some semi open-air place) was like being served coffee in the middle of the stock market scene in Trading Places, or being in the sawdust ring at the circus, during an act.

It was a picture, come to life. Very romantic.

Awaits Luca replying to say it was actually in Croydon (so no Lewis in attendance) and he does just have a cool sounding name.

Italian bars are the best. They understand that espressi should cost no more than a euro each. This is a lesson which has not been heeded in Britain.

Yeah, this was in Venice and I was amazed they were still only charging €1.

The place was so hectic, yet so continental-Europe relaxed, that I had to harangue the bloke into me actually being able to pay him. He was more interested in whizzing about serving and chatting, he seemingly wasn't actually taking money from anyone.

There you go - they say that you should learn something every day, and you have already met your quota.

Karen Indyqueen was a favourite Dr Who companion back in the day before it became so painfully politically correct that most people stopped watching it - 'nuff said

I managed to find one for five euros in the Piazza del Duomo in Florence one time. Impressive, I know!

Also while I'm pretty sure Luca will slaughter me for saying this, the coffee and hot chocolate from those vending machines you see everywhere in the posh parts of Italy is pretty decent too.

I had a great espresso from a machine outside a EuroSpar this year at Lake Garda. €1.20 though. The cheek!

The Nescafe machines at Le Mans produce a half decent coffee but needing three for a half decent breakfast cup will set you back €7.50.

Just over a week since RHR wins a Marshall Pruett IndyCar podcast "Golden Bowling Ball" award for his driving at Portland, Andretti removes significant portions of yellow from the car's livery.  Coincidence?  I think not!

And does anybody think this paint job is even remotely attractive?

Yeah I'd either have gone with a white/old logos car and yellow/current logos wings, or vice versa. That blend is very...ING Renault. Which like BRG said, one half is good the other half is good, combined it's a...hard no.

Maybe that's the tactic. Make the driver in front think it's just Marco in their mirrors.
