Best driver: BOT
Worst driver: KUB
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams-Mercedes
Best overtake: Verstappen on Vettel
Best moment: Happy Bottas interview in victory lane
DRS + Tyres + other:  Seems to be working fine for the moment, the Pirellis tyres have high deg, that is the design.

Best driver: Valtteri
Worst driver: Gasly, expected more.
Best team: Merc.
Worst team: Williams.
Best overtake: the ones I saw were all meh.
Best moment: Valtteri saying he wanted the 26 points.
DRS + Tyres + other: Well, same old same old really, more of the same with minor differences.

And the race in a sentence: 5/10 - Prefered Formula E.

Best driver: Bottas, but a shout out for Magnussen and Hulkenberg too.

Worst driver: Probably Kubica, a lot of drivers had decent reasons for being out of position today, be it strategy error by team, or circumstances outside their control leaving them near the bottom. I don’t think any driver was dreadful today.

Best team: Who else but Mercedes

Worst team: Who else but Williams

Best overtake: Verstappen on Vettel was the only one I recall seeing.

Best moment: Seeing Bottas blitz the field and his teammate righting a wrong from last season where things conspired against him to deny him any wins.

And the race in a sentence: The Merc that ran away with it wasn’t the one every body expected. 6/10

Best overtake: Max on Seb
Best moment: the overtake of Max on Seb
DRS + Tyres + other:

DRS seems to work fine. New aero rules allows more cars to follow closely.

But tyres is still a story:

C4 lasts too long and C3  not enough...

And the race in a sentence: Shocked by Ferrari pace and surprise by the Red Bull one.

Best driver - Bottas, one of the finest individual performances I've seen for a long time tbh.
Worst driver - ooh, pains me to say it but Kubica. Just not good. Please let that just be a rotten start and no more.
Best team - Mercedes, obviously.
Worst team - Williams. Oh God, Williams. What a tank.
Best overtake - Max on Vettel, like a computer game.
Best moment - Bottas' happiness and relief after the race.
DRS/tyres - thought DRS was meant to be more powerful this year? Cars can, however, follow more closely, finally.

Race in a sentence - the NASCAR is on Freesports tonight.

Ps: it's 2019!

Best driver: Valtteri Bottas
Worst driver: Robert Kubica
Best team: Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport
Worst team:  ROKiT Williams Racing
Best overtake: Max Verstappen on Sebastian Vettel
Best moment(s): "But I want that extra point" from several top 5 drivers
DRS + Tyres + other: DRS: Never been a fan (as no real racing fans should be). Tyres: Better than previous rules (however for this weekend seems no real difference between Medium and Hard?). New aero rules: WHAT A MESS! Intention: More overtakes. Result: Limited overtakes to near null. Pierre Gasly would've stormed the midfield train with old aero rules (Edit: AND without DRS, ofcourse).

And the race in a sentence: The season has finally begun.

Best driver: Bottas - faultless
Best team: Merc - supreme
Wost driver: Kubica - Unfair though with rubbish preparation in crap car
Worst team: Williams - in a class of their own
Best overtake: Max on Vettel - by default. Were there any other significant ones?
Best moment: Last couple of laps fight for fastest lap was actually pretty fun in an otherwise forgettable race.
DRS + Tyres + other: This track needs a lot more than just DRS to make overtaking possible without the guy in front making a mistake.

And the race in a sentence: Tedious bore as usual on this uninteresting track.

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Kubica sadly, would have like to see it differently but I cant, had a poor weekend hope he will improve soon.
Best team: Mercedes, cant beat a 1 - 2.
Worst team: Williams, how do they keep on failing year over year.
Best overtake: Max on Vettel
Best moment: Fast lap stuff, good they added this.
DRS + Tyres + other: Meh as always DRS gives a bit but its still artificial, they need to fix the problem not get some half solution. Make the cars way easier to follow and get rid of DRS so drivers have to do their own overtake.

And the race in a sentence: Good first race better then last few Melbourne races. New regs do give some close racing i guess, time will tell. Good to see the midfield closer to the top 3. Shout out to Honda was a bit reluctant if they could deliver but boy they did.

Best driver: Bottas, perfect drive
Worst driver: Gasly... cause Stroll did what he should have done.
Best team:Mercedes, can’t argue with a 1-2
Worst team: Williams, they still testdeiving it seems
Best overtake: Verstappen on Vettel
Best moment: The season has started
DRS + Tyres + other: Even DRS can’t help against a bad track layout, we had more overtakes than previous years but still too little. Tires, I don’t like that simplified 3 tires system, because now the yellows didn’t work for team X, but on a other track they can be either red or white... how to keep proper track over a season now?

And the race in a sentence: Hamilton has gotten the warning this wont be a walk in the park

I think someone here jumped to all the wrong conclusions on seeing a boring race. We had more overtakes than previous years, remember last year even Verstappen struggled with the Haas and McLaren.

Before the aero overhaul overtaking (especially on this track) was a dissaster, the improvements are minor but they are there. F1 has for decades been a procession on most tracks it is just that we don’t want to admit it.

The average que in my post office is less than 10... that means you basically walk to the front completely ignoring the que.. you are very rude.

For me it’s not necessarily the lack of overtakes, it’s the lack of suspense and impressiveness about them.

Of the overtakes I saw it was more ‘is he? ...yes...no.....ok....next lap.....closer....yes....yep there he goes job done.’

When to me it should be ‘On the attack AGAIN, can’t quite make it stick but has the inside for the next turn and it’s SO CLOSE between the two into the corner but not this time!’ which is how it seems to be in IndyCar and Formula E for example.

5/10

Best driver: Bottas - never seen him drive like that!
Worst driver: Kubica - I'm glad to see him back but it's mostly a nostalgia thing. It's going to be a long season for him.
Best team: Mercedes. Sigh.
Worst team: Williams - not really a surprise after their poor show in pre-season testing, but they seem to be even further behind than before.
Best overtake: There weren't many that were memorable, but Verstappen on Vettel made me smile,
Best moment: Bottas being so far ahead of Hamilton at the end.
DRS + Tyres + other: The cars are following better, it's a shame the circuit wasn't the best to showcase. Medium tyres (which compound was it?) were duff.

And the race in a sentence: Should have stayed in bed and caught up when I woke up.

Best driver: BOTTAS

Worst driver: KUBICA - literally everyone, everywhere, including on this forum has overreacted to his comeback, but I knew he wouldn't be the same, given the circumstances.

Best team: MERCEDES

Worst team: WILLIAMS

Best overtake: NORRIS on GIOVINAZZI

Best moment: The START!

As for the race, it was exactly what you'd expect on this boring track, under normal circumstances. 5/10

But I'm glad that F1 is back and I look forward to the upcoming races at better circuits.

I gave it an 8. Yes that´s high, but there are some extra points in there for it being the first race of the year after a long winter, the race being better than last year (therefore, better then expected) and some nice surprice results.

Best driver: Bottas

Worst driver: Kubica

Best team: Merc

Worst team: I think Williams doesnt even have to be mentioned here... Ferrari. They underperformed as a team.

Best overtake: Max - Vettel

Best moment: Bottas start

Race in a sentence: Definitely entertaining!

Best driver: Bottas. Honourable mention to Stroll, just because I like it when people who get a lot of flak turn out to not be all of what they are portrayed as being.
Worst driver: I am tempted to say Kubica, but it has to go to Gasly. It seems a bit embarrasing that Verstappen could pass Vettel while Gasly could not pass Kvyat.
Best team: Mercedes, annoyingly.
Worst team: Williams, sadly.
Best overtake: Verstappen on Vettel.

Best moment: The start, realising that Bottas might just win this grand prix after all the crap he went through last year (Azerbaijan, China, Russia, etc.).
Race in a sentence: Hopefully this is a sign of what's to come this season for Bottas versus Hamilton and hopefully it's not for Mercedes versus the rest of the field.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and the points for fastest lap like I expected provided an extra reason to keep watching even though we knew the winner. Max takes best overtake and moment with that move on Vettel.

Solid 7. The new front wings felt like a big improvement on 2017–18. We got to see rookies and returnees fighting hard for track position. And it looked like Verstappen was about to mount an attack on Hamilton for P2 when he ran wide at Turn 1.

That. And I also think that the last two years many posters here took the overtaking skills of Verstappen and Ricciardo at Red Bull for granted. When both would storm through the field last years when something went wrong during qualifying, it was often a bit pooh-poohed. 'You know, much better car, artificial overtaking with DRS and so forth.' My foremost impression of today: the cars could follow mor easily but some drivers just did not dare to go for the overtake. With Ghasly as a prime example. Unfortunately.

And Toro Rosso drivers being told to jump out of the way of Red Bull cars. I was very surprised to see Gasly being held up by Kvyat throughout the race. (And overtaking in Melbourne is not easy, so Gasly was basically screwed the moment he was knocked out in Q1.)

Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams. Dreadful.
Best overtake: Only saw one of any consequence and that was a walk in the park, (no pun intended), Max on Seb
Best moment: ten past five.
DRS + Tyres + other: Still trying to arrive at any kind of conclusion. Need another circuit or two.

And the race in a sentence: word: Tedium.

The only guy that stormed through the field was Stroll
He doesn’t get any credit for this from commentators and therefore folks on this thread
Other good performances by Kimi and Hulk and Mag
Bottas was flawless but he had to race absolutely nobody
Worst team Ferrari. Totally got blown away.
Best team Haas. Clearly best of the rest
Unlucky drivers Ricciardo Grosjean. Neither deserved their fate

Overtaking is another issue that won't be solved till the new regs come in.

I saw no convincing evidence the cars can follow each other better.

And overtaking is not 'another issue'.  The whole point of cars being able to follow closer is so they can get better runs on people and attempt an overtake.

Anyways, the race was pretty boring.  Bit of strategy intrigue, but not much else.

Well I saw a LOT of cars following each other for long periods, I don't know what you are looking for but I have a feeling the point of the areo rules has completely gone over your head.

Overtaking is seperate issue, it was never claimed to be a goal for the 2019 aero changes - you'e made that part up yourself.

I suggest you read up a bit on the history surrounding the 2019 rules. They are a partial implementation of the 2021 aerodynamic formula which will also address the overtaking issue. The 2019 subset was only meant to help with the following.

Worst driver: Kubica. Yes there were issues there, but it was still the poorest performance out there today.
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams
Best overtake: Norris on Giovinazzi. Was a Ricciardo-esque divebomb exectued perfectly after many outside attempts had failed.
Best moment: Bottas' look at me now comments.
DRS + Tyres + other: Early to tell how the new package will work, but promising.

Not bad for Melboune really. Above average.

Worst driver: Gasly. Arrogant and over-rated.
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams. It's painful to see what was a favourite team of mine from the early-1980s.
Best overtake: Verstappen on Vettel
Best moment: The start
DRS + Tyres + other: Ferrari needs to understand the tires better.

And the race in a sentence: Looking at history, it's a bit unwise to predict the rest of the championship after the first race...

It was alright but bogged in the middle  - much like my typical (and thankfully rare) souffle.  One pleasant surprise was how much excitement the extra point added to the end of the race.  Glad Bottas stepped up too - with Merc looking a class above a fight between him and Hamilton might be the only excitement available at the top of the grid. 6/10

Best driver: Bottas (That start! And, excellent race management from there on out.)
Worst driver: Ricardo (easy to say Kubica, but his team pitted him twice and it was clear the team was more in data gathering mode than race mode)
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Renault... (originally I said Haas, but their weekend was good... Renault seem adrift... Haas made one error, a big one, but only one and Williams is not yet really even in the competition, so hard to evaluate a team mostly still collecting data rather than racing)
Best overtake: Verstappen
Best moment:  Giovinazzi holding up three other midfielders (Norris, Grosjean, and someone else) for lap after lap through totally annoying and questionable in legality moves before Norris, then Grosjean finally got by him.
DRS + Tyres + other: So much improved over last year. Teams and drivers still coming to grips with all the new features in race conditions.

And the race in a sentence: Never read too much into the results of the first race: Teams are still learning their cars. While the winning team and driver may be dialed in for the season, other team still have lots to learn and may catch up (see 2018, Vettel and Ferrari vs Hamilton and Mercedes).

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Gasly
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams absolute, Ferrari vs expectations
Best overtake: There was only one proper one, Verstappen on Vettel.
Best moment: Bottas stepping up to the challenge
DRS + Tyres + other: Bigger hole in rear wing didn’t seem to help here, worried it may be too powerful at races with long straights. Low and wide front wings may prove fragile.

Race in a sentence: Overall boring and disappointing start to the season, but still hopeful for the year ahead with a stronger Bottas and Red Bull, plus LeClerc giving Vettel a run for his money

What for though? Surely the point of being able to follow closer is so that you can overtake?

Too early to judge though, more powerful DRS may actually make it too easy at some tracks.

I see a lot of folks picking Williams for Worst Team. That's quite legit, but also seems pointless. Williams has been in serious trouble as a team for several years now and was known to be seriously non-competitive for any of the various sub-competitions of the series (WCC, WDC, Best of the Rest, etc.). That is, they are the equivalent of a person on the ground having tripped and calling them out for not walking seems to be kicking them while they are down.

Who underperformed among those who we expect to be actually in the game? There you have legit contenders: Ferrari, Renault, Haas, etc.

You make it sound as if it's not their fault they've tripped.

From the highlights only.

Best driver: Looks like Verstappen did a solid job. Stroll not too bad either up there in 9th.
Worst driver: Eh? Hard to blame someone for simple mistakes. Gasly didn't impress, but it's Melbourne.
Best team: Mercedes quite obviously.
Worst team: Saying Williams all year will probably get quite dull, but for now... Williams.
Best overtake: Ricciardo overtaking his frontwing.
Best moment: Feisty start from Leclerc.
DRS + Tyres + other: DRS is always ridiculous. Can't comment on tyres from the footage seen.

And the race in a sentence: Melbourne is usually quite bad, but FOM seemed to struggle to fill four minutes of highlights.

The answer is in the very post you quoted.
