You make it sound as if it's not their fault they've tripped.

Oh, no... they are at fault...but the issue happened long before they got to Australia, long before they got to Winter Testing. They are in an abyss of their own making. Calling them out for being a bad team in Australia when they aren't even on the map seems rather redundant to me.

I scored this race an 8 because of a number of reasons.

Honda engined car on the podium and actually lead the race for a few laps.
A look at how the rookies and new team mates fared against each other and the rest of the field and yes there were a few surprises there.
Close racing especially among the mid pack teams (races within the race)
Surprised at the enthusiasm of some of the drivers over the fastest lap point.
And it's always good to start the season.

I see a lot of folks picking Williams for Worst Team. That's quite legit, but also seems pointless. Williams has been in serious trouble as a team for several years now and was known to be seriously non-competitive for any of the various sub-competitions of the series (WCC, WDC, Best of the Rest, etc.). That is, they are the equivalent of a person on the ground having tripped and calling them out for not walking seems to be kicking them while they are down.

Who underperformed among those who we expect to be actually in the game? There you have legit contenders: Ferrari, Renault, Haas, etc.

Even as a Williams fan first and foremost I don't see how they can be excused from being nominated as worst team. They've simply done the worst job out there, as sad I find it. Given their resources and drivers, they should be around Racing Point.

If they're the person on the ground, they tripped because they didn't get their shoelaces tied properly.

The thing is. They were already on the ground before this GP started... So when rating this GP, were they underperfoming based on their capabilities?

If you rate the season, they would definitely be dead last. I personally dont see the point from rating them dead last every single GP though. I know it´s just the first one, but still :). Everyone should rate as please, it´s a subjective meassure here anyway.

None of the teams had major disasters really, so it all comes down to performance. Also as this is the first race, it's the baseline.

Best driver: Bottas- Dominated the race
Worst driver: Kubica- Based more on his qualifying escapades and how they set him up for today.
Best team: Mercedes- Again, dominated the race
Worst team: Williams- The car stinks and their pace means they are deservedly bottom of the pack
Best overtake: Verstappen being clean in his overtake on Vettel
Best moment: When I could switch off and forget about Williams coming last!
DRS + Tyres + other: I think on a better track things will look more exciting.

And the race in a sentence: A typical Australian Grand Prix, not that exciting but has the buzz of a new season.

Always good to get the standards established.

Besides, it's a bit harsh to make Haas to be the worst of the team because they screwed up a pitstop. I guess there may be more candidates if you've seen the entire race (strategy wise, perhaps), but it seemed like nobody had a particularly bad performance.

I thought Ferrari was worst. Mostly, because I think they could´ve done a lot better.

Could be that my expectations were wrong of course :).

Best driver: Bottas was untouchable! Honorable mentions for Max, K-Mag and Kvyat

Worst driver: Gasly and Ricciardo did not cover themselves in glory today. Was dissappointed in Lewis, Seb and Leclerc as well.

Best team: Mercedes. Toro Rosso was impressive as well.

Worst team: Haas, omg

Best overtake: Max on Seb!

Best moment: The last laps fastest lap frenzy.

DRS + Tyres + other: Dunno

And the race in a sentence: Better than Melbourne has been in recent years, decent racing going on.

This was a good race for this track! I'll predict that people will complain that overtaking is too easy after Bahrain GP.

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Gasly
Best team: Merc
Worst team: Haas this race (Williams will no doubt take the season trophy)
Best overtake: Norris on Gio
Best moment: Bottas and Leclerc at the start
DRS + Tyres + other:

And the race in a sentence: The rookies all looked like they belonged in F1 (Russel in a better car perhaps).

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Gasly
Best team: Merc
Worst team: Williams
Best overtake: Bottas on Hamilton, Turn 1
Best moment: The ad breaks
DRS + Tyres + other: - I'm not sure if C4 highlights even mentioned DRS once, which is a plus point.

And the race in a sentence: Hamilton was further behind his team-mate than I can ever remember so I suspect Merc scripted this as payback for the race win donated last year (they said as much on team radio).

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Ricciardo - there is an old saying that goes something like "to finish first:first you have got to make it to the first corner without making a complete idiot of yourself first."
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams
Best overtake: I was sitting on the pit straight and nobody overtakes there so I didn't see any.
Best moment: The applause from the crowd when Robert Kubica finished - a nice touch from a very knowledgeable audience#.
DRS + Tyres + other: It would take more than DRS around the whole track whenever the driver behind wants it to produce much in the way of overtaking at Albert Park. Having said that it was a tremendously entertaining weekend anyway. Tyres too hard - Ideally there should always be an option with a two stop soft soft medium about equal to a one stop medium hard.

And the race in a sentence: Can all those people promising a Ferrari win and writing off Mercedes after a disappointing winter of testing please put their hands up now !

# I read in this mornings Herald Sun a piece saying people were only there to watch Dan Ricciardo and know nothing about racing. Complete and utter bollocks by someone who shouldn't have ever been given a media accreditation in the first place. It may be true in the hospitality suite where he was drinking his VIP hosts chardonnay but around the rest of the circuit most of the people I spoke to had not only been attending for years (and were very knowledgeable) but many like myself also attend other motor sport events domestically and abroad.

Best driver: Bottas. Exceeded expectations. Close to lewis in qualifying, beat him fair and square on Sunday. Best drive of his life to date.

Worst driver: Gasly. Performed substantially below the level expected. Never looked comfortable. Honourable mention to Perez.

Best team: Mercedes. On it all weekend

Worst team: Williams, they're just struggling in all areas. Honourable mention to Ferrari for a decidedly sub-par performance

Best overtake: There was an overtake?

Best moment: Leclerc asking if he could overtake Vettel. Putting a marker down for the future.

DRS still sucks. Tyres seem OK. The new aero does allow cars to follow each other closer, let's see if other circuits allow more overtaking.

As usual Melbourne failed to deliver an exciting race, please let's return to Adelaide.

Best driver: Bottas (supremely fast, while holding back a bit), Stroll (beat his more experienced, much higher rated team mate, scored points, and fastest lap was 0.9s quicker than Checo)
Worst driver: Kubica (getting lapped by your rookie team mate is never a good look), Gasly (who apparently forgot he's no longer driving a Toro Rosso).
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams are incredibly slow, but we already knew that. Are you the worst if you perform as expected as the worst team?
Best overtake: Norris on Giovinazzi
Best moment: Bottas asking to go for FL
DRS + Tyres + other: seemed fine to me

And the race in a sentence: Not really bad, but not all that good either, like Tottenham.

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Kubica, hit the wall in Q and was nowhere in race when he got more damage. Honorable mention Gasly. He should have at least score points in the RB.
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams
Best overtake: A Honda overtaking a Ferrari, who would have thought that.
Best moment: At least the season starts again
DRS + Tyres + other: DRS seems overpowered. The FL's in the end means we are still in the Delta-Era

Can you elaborate on this one?

This is Autosports assessment of his race:

Perez aced the first two segments of qualifying, and although he was slower than he should have been in Q3 it probably made no difference to his starting position. After losing places to fast-starting Hulkenberg and the punchy Albon on the first lap, following the early stoppers proved costly and left him adrift of the points - although he did at least repass the Toro Rosso. VERDICT: A Racing Point had no business being in Q3, but Perez nailed it. Other than his poor start, he wasn't the architect of his own slide in the race.

I agree with this, so would love to hear where you disagree so much as to rate Perez worse than everybody bar Gasly.

My thought as well....will have to see a body of results to see if Bottas' revival plays out over the long term.
