Every race people come up with strategy reasons why Leclerc secretly was better than Vettel, but he has been slower in every race except for Bahrain. He is always pushing also when he shouldn't. He is quick at the start of the stints and slow at the end. But Vettel was better throughout practice, qualifying and race.

A driver can be slower in every session yet still beat his teammate if that teammate makes a mistake. And Vettel made a mistake. But how the race then turned out and decisions Ferrari made worked back into Vettel's favour. That doesn't necessarily mean Vettel was better.

It is constantly Leclerc that can't make his strategy work. It is not the strategy being bad but the driver being unable to make it work because he only has 1 mode: as fast as possible.

Edit: After the SC Leclerc lost 4.2 seconds again to Vettel. Leclerc only looked better in stint 1 because of Vettels flatspot but the difference was so big that Vettel easily overcame that 5 second deficit.

The overanalyzing of strategies doesn't matter. Ferrari missed a trick. They should hire Valtteri Bottas as their #1 driver for 2020. Obviously he is much better than either of the incumbents. :p

Short memories. In Melbourne Vettel couldn't make his strategy work, and when he then became very slow Leclerc wasn't allowed to attack him.

Not sure why you keep bringing all these other names in here, Magnussen, Sainz, Bottas. You know, those are all quite decent drivers, maybe they would actually do a better job in the Ferrari in these 5 races. What do we know? Not sure what they did to deserve to be used as a joke.

Well, maybe they would all bring 1-2 finishes to Mercedes in all races too. Indeed we don't know!

Vettel beats a highly-rated team-mate and can only get a 7.5? That's definitely better than Bottas' race effort.

People can't see the context at all this season. The marks given to Vettel this season remind me how the likes of boillot and HermannH would rate him. :rotfl:

Shagged his tyres into T1 and compromised his first stint, whilst also chopping his team mate trying to recover. I get he had to go for it but it was a mistake. Leclerc was then given a garbage strategy, the hards just didn't work on the Ferrari. Bottas was class in Q and his start was his only black mark.

10 for Verstappen is not right. Should be an 11. He's been driving flawless for a year know and deserves this extra point. He's the fastest and most constant driver on the grid. And this by quit a margin i must say.

The problem is, there´s not really anyone to properly compare it with... You cannot really use Gasly as a reference, so it´s difficult to say what speed the RB actually has.

We have 2,5 years of driving the Red Bull against a quick team mate as a reference. I don't think he suddenly got slower with Gasly as his team mate. :)

I doubt all, but some drivers for sure. But Mercedes lead also hasn't been that big that a tenth slower driver wouldn't have impact.

I must say that for once the overall ranking actually looks quite decent.

2 things that are maybe a bit off:

1. I would say is that Russell and Norris are being scored too high. Russell has clearly been making mistakes but no matter what he does he gets a 7. I understand it is very hard to score him and that you can only really compare him to Kubica, but if a midfield teams' car doesn't work a weekend, e.g. Racing Point in Spain, Haas in Baku etc, they will get significantly lower grades in those races. So unfair advantage to Russell, in terms of the driver ratings at least.

2. McLaren clearly have a decent car. It has come as a surprise for many and therefore the drivers are being scored higher than they would be if their car was expected to be alright. The same goes the other way with the Renaults and the Haas boys I think whose car clearly only works on some tracks and they are being punished heavily on the tracks it doesn't.

I like how Vettel has the same place as Giovanazzi in AS.  :p
