Found this (not very good) video from the opening lap:

That was just brilliant stuff. That clip could be used as training material for future F1 newcomers. Ladies and gentlemen, that is how one executes lap 1!! :)

Noticed that alfa has really bad topspeed also now. Kimi was consistently loosing few tenths against pretty much everyone around him at that long straight when watched live timing when there wasnt DRS. So basicly car must be really draggy but at same time lacks a lot of downforce. Not very good combination   After great first part of season its very sad to see how poor the car has become. Very boring last few races ahead when everyone else than williams and haas are quite a bit faster, specially on race trim.

Gio was really poor yesterday, well basicly all weekend as he was ahead kimi at quali only because of that big mistake. Other than that he was consistently slower by quite big margin. Not that it makes much differenc when car so so ****.

GIO confirmed for next season!

I think the kid deserves another shot.
First full F1 season for him.
He struggled in the first few races, but after the summer break he improved quite a bit. (A shame the car fell down the order)

A second season could show his true colors

I am glad for him. He's had a difficult year in a pretty difficult car in all fairness. Next year we will see a closer battle between the two I think.

Have to put this up there as one of Kimi's best qualifying sessions this year, I know it's not his highest but since the car has been a dog and even the team admitted they are focused on next year this was a brilliant result. I don't know if he will be able to hold on in the top ten but I hope so. Not too bad from Gio either, silly mistake but he's still in a decent place to hopefully get 2 points finishes tomorrow, it will be tough though.

Does anybody know how strong was Kimi’s racepace in practice compared to those around him? Mainly to Gasly.

For Gio to stay in Alfa or be promoted to any other team, he needs to outqualify Kimi next year. At races, Kimi may still prevail thanks to his great racecraft plus years of experiences, but he has no excuse in quali anymore ( this scenario on Kimi still would like to go on for 2021)

Kimi had good racepace on friday and he wasn't even happy with the car...heck he wasn't happy with the car yesterday either.

From midfielders I think Perez had the best long run pace and Kimi was right behind him..don't know what tyres they had.Kimi's times were between 1,13,8 to 1,14,5 and Gasly 1,14,0 to 1,14,9

Kimi could have been on the podium, while Ham could get penalty.

No power for Alfa on straight. Even with DRS gap stayed 0.5 on straight.

It was strange indeed. Sadly in the final laps there were no DRS.

And Kimi did overtook Sainz but sadly couldn't keep it.

What has happened to alfa topspeeds? Damn kimi was barely cathing sainz on that long main straight with DRS.

Early sesson alfa was always very top at the speedtasp figures, lately they have been extremely slow on straights.

True.I think they mainly just have a really bad traction. There isn't much difference between the topspeed, only Ferrari is class above.

Shame that Kimi couldnt overtake Sainz, almost look like he had it already, but the Sainz got the position back. Like said, it would have been possibly 3rd place, but either way otherwise this was ofc jackpot for Alfa....just shame they fell so far behind 7th place that even with this result they will remain clearly behind Racing Point, but atleast this result also means that they scored atleast more points than they did last season, even if it didnt really help them finish any higher in WCC.

Kimi said tyres still the problem, they use too much tyres and pace drops, he was a dissapointed on his pace but said result was good for the team, but was dissapointed for not finishing in front of Sainz mainly because cqr pushed so much on last tyreset.

Should Sainz get like 5 secpenalty, that would mean Alfa would be only 5 points behind Racing point...should that happen, then with perfect race in Abu Dhabi they would even have a chance to get 7th position in WCC

Yes, should have been a penalty but he likely got a lucky escape because there were 5 other drivers as well using it.

If i would be at alfa surely would consider protest. Any point is important for midfield team as alfa, and it was clear sainz broked rules so kinf strange he didnt get any penalty.

Indeed!
Rules were softened last year, if a driver closes DRS fast enough he likely won't receive a penalty...on this case half straight was considered fast :'D

it was good to see that they got the strategy right for once though, and didn't try to go for a one-stopper. Even without the DNFs and safety car(s), Raikkonen would have finished within the Top 10, and also Giovinazzi was still in touch.

If you'd have said to me Alfa would get a 4th and 5th here before the race I would be ecstatic and I still am. Yes, I am disappointed that Kimi couldn't get past Sainz but I think he played it safe and probably did the right thing in the end. Had he gone for a divebomb it may have ended in disaster and lost him points but potentially Gio too. I think he did get past Sainz at one stage but then it got very close and he seemed to back off and just accept that he wouldn't pass. I know Sainz was on old tyres but we've all seen how Alfa have struggled with their tyres and their whole package over the last few races, he might have had worse tyres but Sainz for sure had a far better race car.

As for the Sainz no penalty, I knew it wasn't going to be, don't ask me why. I guess the stewards have looked at it and thought that in the end nothing was gained and that Kimi and co had chances to pass him over a couple of laps so they let him off the hook. The issue for me is that I thought using DRS under double yellows would be considered more of a safety issue than anything else? That being the case, it seems very illogical to me that stewards would for instance punish Max Verstappen for not abiding by yellow flags but allow Sainz and apparently 5 other drivers to get away with their errors (unless the errors were not their fault but since no one seems to know anything, who knows?).

And even though I don't think it's possible, how much of a bummer would it be if Alfa were to lose out to Racing Point in the Championship by a point or two? That would hurt! Then again, even if tha did happen Alfa only really have themselves to blame for some stupid strategies and that mistake in Germany which cost both drivers points through no fault of their own.

I think today has to be seen as a positive, no podium and arguments can be made for or against whether Sainz should have got a penalty but it's a brilliant result for the team. Want to give special kudos to Gio who was never more than a few seconds off Kimi and didn't falter in the last few laps when he could so easily have done so!

It's been a mixed feelings season: The first half was pretty good but then from Italy onwards a nightmare. Kimi sucked in a few races [Singapore, Japan, Canada...] . Last week I was thinking Brazil was the last place were Kimi could score. It's a small track and Alfa always goes well on them. It's such a big shame he couldn't get Sainz as it would be a podium. Nevertheless Kimi has now more points than Leclerc did last year in a similar competitive car and Gio more than Ericsson.

Doesnt really matter if racepace would be ok. On track like this when you qualify poorly race is over before it even starts. We seem completely lost, not single lap for either of the drivers so far that would indicate other than Q1 exit.

Its unbelivable how car that was almost top of midfield two weeks ago suddenly becomes 1s off the pace. Alfa really must be completely lost on tyre management.

It's quite easy in modern f1 that performances changes a lot weekend to weekend in such a close midfield. It really all dependes on how they get tyres to work as you said.

Kimi lost 0,3 in s3 to Gio, they were tied after s2, not that it really matters. Pathetic performance from the cars, just a few tenths in front of Williamses.
