Given the circumstances Gasly must be concerned about his future. The team made all their best for Kvyat to be at the tail:
- 2 sessions missed
- qualy missed
- extra stop in the race

But stil Kvyat paased Gasly twice and finished ahead...

Naoki did ok, didn't he?  True, he was "basically last" of the field, but not far off Kvyat.  I think we'd have to chalk this up as a successful FP1 outing, unless something went horribly wrong with Kvyat that I don't know about.

I'd love to see him in a race seat there in 2020 and I suppose stranger things have happened.

Gasly already on top of Kvyat. He is the stronger driver.

Gasly has been steadily rebuilding his reputation after being (opinion only) rather unfairly handled by RB management. Frankly he has looked very very good and today was a nice well earned reward.

/Oh and mods.. maybe next year drop the confusion/insulting/cutesy thread titles for team threads? They don't work, and it isn't even clear what thread is supposed to be the official team driver etc thread.

Kvyat costing Toro Rosso P5 in the championship. He was strong in Belgium and Italy, but very poor since.

Pierre, what can you say?! So well deserved after this year he had, he really been through hell and kept on walking. Been crying happy tears for him since he pulled out that magical last laps, calmed down a bit then he started talking about Anthoine. So cool under pressure and he got to show everyone that he is a fantastic driver, even if his style doesn't suit the RB. The goosebumps I got when he pulled away from a frickin Merc! Insane race, just insane!

Its a shame that Vips didn't get SL this year, would be awesome to see these two together next year.

I hold my hands up and say that I honestly believed that Pierre would be destroyed after being demoted from RB, much like Kvyat was, how wrong I was! I am delighted for him, he's had one hell of a year what with the demotion and losing a close friend in Hubert. His strength of character is remarkable and his podium was fully deserved today, he's been on it all weekend. If he continues on like this, the door closed at RB could well open again depending on what happens with Albon next year.

Interesting times ahead!

Kvyat was really unlucky after his demotion, it was impossible for him to have Kvyat as a teammate.

He did his best with not optimally set car. After first restart he overtook three cars, then engine went to safe mode and he was at the back. After second restart he overtook three cars again and finished in the points. Obviously Gasly was incredibly lucky with Ferrari collision and Hamilton vs Albot, but Kvyat earned his place the hard way.

Funny old game, innit?

Gasly dropped by RBR into a team that had just podiumed with Kvyat. I thought he would spiral down in freefall. Good on him.

It does raise questions though - why was he so lacking in the big seat? Pressure? Max? Slightly different car characteristics?

Since he was demoted back to STR Gasly has quite possibly been the single driver who's impressed me the most. He's been superb, he's absolutely trounced Kvyat in a way that Albon never did which is a bit of a head scratcher.

How do you rate Gasly's season? He was proper useless in the Red Bull then brilliant in the Toro Rosso.

I think the TR has less df, but more consistent df.

The inconsistent RB was difficult for Gasly, damaged his confidence, even more so cause Max can handle such a car.

He then started changing too much and got completely lost.

Imo this means he’s fast but fragile.

I dont know if this is allowed to be posted since is around the personal life of a driver and if it is not allowed I apologize but I believe it could have an impact in the perfomance of Kvyat in the future.

Apparently it seems he just split with Kelly Piquet, she unfollowed him on Instagram, deleted all the photos with/of him and apparently he wasnt present on the first christmas of his daughters.

Sad if true even more considering Bottas is going to a similar thing.

I was not a big fan of Gasly, and thought that his promotion to RB came far too soon. Never expected him to rebound so well in the TR, but he did and all credit to him for doing so. I expect Pierre to have a solid 2020 and put his name back into consideration for a better drive elsewhere .... unless of course TR becomes that better drive.
