This has just appeared on display in the last month or so. Goodness I've not seen an F1 car in this sort of state in ages, if ever.

 

 

 

 

 

There wasn't a chassis number on display,  in fact the only info with the car was a print out from the Arrows A7 Wikipedia page!

But I do know that the full history is with the car, it's ex-Boutsen/Surer.

If you look closely, you can see that the rear wing is actually resting on the rear tyres and the floor at the back was sitting on the ground too.

    A 300k budget to get up and running?

Easy, just get an engine of a 1502 and stick a turbo and a 16V head to it. That's how BMW supposendly did it back then.

Who will be given the task of putting it (somewhat) right?

I was told that it had been in the back of the lorry for 4 years. Not sure it is going to be restored at present.

Rollbar is unusual, two hoops running fore and aft.

As for resto? Is there actually a use for it? Or is that the way it will continue

From what I've seen, the rollbar is original. No idea on restoration, I'm pretty sure it could be raced in Historic F1 here in Europe for starters.

A M12/13 engine would set you back only 160-190k.

 

This should be one of three built? Two others have been in Germany for a while. One was/is in the Sinsheim collection. Open roll bars, #17 and tobacco sponsoring partly not present. And another in Frankfurt, pristine, enveloping bodywork at roll bar.

So, my estimate of £300,000 to get it up and running isn't too wide of the mark.

The Arrows A7 is one of 2 or 3 cars built to race and this car was part of the original factory collection 20 years ago that where sold off after Jackie Oliver sold the team to TWR.

BMW Turbo engines nowhere near the prices you guys purport.

I can supply a couple of motors and LOTS of new parts to rebuild them 

 

This car would cost somewhere around 100-140k to restore to running condition. 

There are no races in UK Europe for them to race in but many cars like this one do run in demo events or form part of collections but a fair few will be in museums as it is obviously the easiest thing with an F1 car is just put it on display

I encountered this poor neglected car at Race Retro and , finding myself with time on hand en route to Goodwood, called into Brooklands for my first visit . Damn me , it's following me around like an unloved stray cat ..

 

Excellent museum and what a contrast to the dismal experience that was Donington in its declining years . Accurate signage and brilliantly helpful guides - on both cars and planes .

 

But back to the Arrows - unlike DFV engined cars with plenty of racing opportunities on track , there's just nowhere for cars like the Arrows to go is there ? Apart from tame exhibition laps at what often looks like sub FF1600 pace

Now I noticed it has been sold. 

This A7 was long time in a museum in the south of Germany (Amerangen).

I don´t think the Arrows A7 mentioned in the opening post ist the same car shown in the Amerangen Museum which seems to be in much better shape.

The A7 in the somewhat sorry state could be the car owned by a person who made carbon fibre parts for Arrows back then. He also made an Arrows A8 showcar with glass fibre momnocoque and abandoned race used parts.which I owned at one stage.

No indeed, there were three chassis. Two have been in Germany in good condition.

Thanks Arjan, I went to Klassikstadt last year, but missed the A7. Are Pyritz Classics the dealers on the top floor who don't allow photos?

I've been to Bavaria quite a few times but missed the museum in Amerang; looks like I should add it to my list.
