Verbal, he say,
I used to be in a barber shop quartet in Skokie, Illinois. The baritone was this guy named Kip Diskin, big fat guy, I mean, like, orca fat. He was so stressed in the morning...

Well, I don't think that this has anything to do with Skokie Illinois though I'm not sure. Frankly, I know nothing, a bit like Schultz.

The little that I do know from wiki and other sources follows. You tardy buggers can fill in the gaps.
Barber Raceway.
90 laps. a clockwise 16-turn 2.38-mile (3.83 km) with a race distance of 214.2 miles (344.7 km)

New map courtesy of ANF.
Barber_TrackMap.jpg

Josef Newgarden seems to be the man to watch, having won three of the last four years, Simon Pagenaud being the interloper. Fastest lap appears to be Newgarden in quali last year with a 1.07.583 and the fastest race speed by Pagenaud at 114.254mph for those that need a race speed

Just to add to the excitement, Pato (the duck) O'Ward won both Indy Lights races here last year and Colton Herta won once in '17

All below times are local UK is six hours ahead meaning qualy and race start at 9.00pm (I think)

Shame Indy Lights aren’t running at Barber. They could run, oh, I don’t know - about 42 laps?

They could call it the Haircut 100.

Fantasy Challenge is a bit weird this year. The prices don't really seem to be changing to reflect results.

I mean, Marco is still more than Herta!

So the salaries don't move with the results like some sort of fantasy driver market? How unrealistic is that?

The prices do change, only really slowly so far. For example I'm 100% sure that Newgarden wasn't at $34 before the first race.

I had him in my team at the first race and he was $34 then.

Huh, I could've sworn it was something like $32 for Dixon and then Newgarden-Power-Rossi in the $31-30 range back then.

Yeah, I think that was the case; as you would expect, Dixon as Champ was the most expensive.

It's not that there hasn't been any movement since day 1 (though i'm not convinced there has been much at all since the last race), but isn't Herta more or less the same lowly $23 despite winning the last race? It's a no brainer to pick him, whereas if he was around $28 maybe not.

No way us laggards are going to close the gap to the top if we are all picking the same drivers...

I loved Sgt. Shultz. Oh and I ran lights for Nik Heywood at the Hammersmith Palais in 19 eighty something.
They told me I could do the whole tour... if I cut my hair.

After the win and caution luck to get it, Colton is due to be IndyCar'd to the negative.. will it be this weekend, or will the gods go easy on the rookie for one more week??

Is anyone else watching the Indycar series here in the UK on Sky Sports F1 having issues with series link? Before the first race of the season once I realised that Sky would be showing the qualifying as well as the race, I set up two separate series links, one for the qualifying and one for the race. After the first race it said it was searching for the next race and would be automatically added to the planner when available. It picked up the series link for the qualifying show but not for the race so I had to reinstate it myself and it did the same thing after the second race. I'm going on holiday in a couple of weeks for nearly two weeks and don't want to miss a race due to the series link not working.

1. IndyCar.

2. IndyCar.

3. Moar Indycar.

4. Rewatching last year's Barber IndyCar.

My picks got screwed over in the last race. It was looking really good at one point but then one of my picks hit the barrier at the pit lane entrance bringing out the yellow flag which ruined the races of my other picks.

Also i did have Herta in my team for St Pete, but dropped him in favour of Pato for this race.

The prices of the players *cough* has changed after each game *cough*. Newgarden and Herta prices have gone up from their starting point.

But FanTrax (so far) does not change the prices to the extent the Indycar run game did. Makes it much easier to pick, imho.

My formula is: Do not pick Will Power, do pick one of Herta or Pato. I've been on Herta in races 1 and 2 this year, but I have a feeling that this is a Pato weekend.

Those of you who are new to IndyCar, you're going to love this track.

This is however a bit earlier than usual for this race (by a couple of weeks) so I wonder if it's going to be as green and lush as it usually is.  I mean, it's not going to be Sonoma in September brown, but there may be fewer new buds on display then usual.  But anyway the obligatory Barber porn:

And because someone usually asks, SHE is not there any more, and has been gone for some time.  There was discussion in past years that she looked somewhat like Kat Legge but anyhoo

It gets worse.  If you look at in-car streams or look at a map of suggested racing lines at Barber, the 8-9 complex is basically treated as a single curve.

Bit of a false start on the stream.  They opened it up for about a minute at the top of the hour.  They were either doing the VOs or previewing the package for Colton Herta is young winner.  There will be a graphic of young winners from car series.  Oops...

I love the wackiness that results from this.

Barber is a fun place. I have worked SCCA events at Barber before; I'm pretty sure the numbering on that map corresponds to the location of the flag stations. I've worked 1, 4, 9, and 10. 9 and 10 were lots of fun, especially when my wife drew the short straw at 9 and had to go retrieve one of those circular stick-on mirrors from an F600 lost in the gravel between sessions while my brother and I sat behind and did our best job quoting Forrest Gump. In our defense, she still carries it around as a makeup mirror.

You can't walk to the stations, so you have to ride a pull-behind tram out to them at the start and end of each day. One year we had a NOLA-level storm come through at the end of the day. We postponed the last race because of lightning in the area. I wanted to bring the track's gear in, but everyone else at the station didn't want to have to accommodate it amongst all their own crap while sitting on the tram. I shrugged and left it behind. Thirty minutes later, as 35 mi/h winds and torrential rain began to punish the track, we canceled running for the rest of the day–but they needed to send the tram back out with one worker from each turn to go out and get the gear that the track owned.

Guess who drew the short straw that day?

My windbreaker was completely incapable of sheltering me from the 35 mi/h headwind that was blowing northeast directly into us down the straight between 4 and 5, and as we were doing 40 at the time, I remember thinking, "This is what it must feel like to be stuck in a hurricane." I remember walking back into race control to catch up with the rest of my family, opening the door, and looking like I'd just walked through a freakin' car wash. I turned my badge holder upside down (this supposedly snug, water-tight rubber sheath no bigger than a credit card), and it literally filled an entire 8 oz cup of water. I wasn't sure how that was physically possible. That was like five years ago and I'm still drying out.

And lastly, because I was bored, station 10 has sawhorse projections of all 20 essential amino acids carved into the underside of the railing...

So very, very strange. With 9 minutes left in the session, SATOOOO, Kanaan and Hinchtown all spin out at the same time, at different parts of the track. And it wasn't rain!? Red flag again.

A good reminder that we're only a couple weeks out of tornado season in Alabama.  Another reason why they should run this race at the end of April/beginning of May.
