There is a risk for a boring race with Merc on their own, but maybe 2019 Bottas will fight a bit.

I guess between the Ferrari drivers and Verstappen we'll see an interesting fight for that last podium spot.

Based on the long runs I doubt it. He was quicker than Bottas after corrections.

i have a feeling the balance of the car will be off again.

plus it could be another sluggish start.

and ofcourse starting on the mediums might not be the ideal.

How long do the Soft, Medium, and Hard tires last?

Would a M-M-S strategy be quickest? Why would anyone want to run hards unless they are on a 1 stopper.

It honestly depends on the day.

With lower temps tomorrow this should help the tyres last longer. But this is Pirelli so its all about staying in the tyre operating window and if you are not in it then you will have a poor balance and not use the tyres how you want to therefore you will have a bit of tyre deg.

It also depends on how fast the pace is out in front (how hard they are pushing). On a street track the pace is slow (look at Singapore last year) so they stretch a one stop but with Shanghai you can't really drive too slow so the pace should be quite high.

So its hard to tell.

My guess - Soft will be good for 12-15 laps

Medium 25 maybe(?)

Hard - should be longer than the medium but we have seen in the past that the compounds end up with similar wear life. The question is, is the hard tyre too slow compared to the other compounds. If it is a bad tyre, then the front runners should do 2 stops.

Should be a walk in the park for the Mercedes to be honest.

It will be 2 stop as Pirelli said 1 stop.

I'm digging this thread because, uh, where's the Baku build up thread guys?

Wasn't there some sort of agreement now on who starts the threads or something?

I'll do it tonight. I'm anxiously in the shadow of paulb's amazing Baku build-up from last year..... expectations and all that.

On "agreements", it's quite difficult. It can be as simple as a one-post "program covers" to a fully-fledged effort, and so difficult to assign responsibility. Not to worry.
