Hulkenberg even denied having signed, anywhere. Would love to see Simona grabbing the seat.

Pigot out at ECR, Hulk not favorite for the seat

yes Simona would be nice, but she is not a candidate.

Sad to hear that Hülkenberg also seemed not to be a candidate...

While we talk of the 2020 IndyCar season, let's keep John Andretti close in our thoughts as he continues his cancer battle. This article and photo of John is from late October and he's looking good. He's the public face of the annual "Race for Riley" fundraiser for Riley Hospital for Children. He's been part of the fund drive since it began as a WIBC promotion 22 years ago, with Andretti taking on challengers at a karting track. The event has raised nearly $5 million. This year's campaign brought in $550,000. Best wishes for good health John.

Since my internet racing friends are mainly found in the IndyCar threads, I hope you don't mind me sharing that as of last Thursday, I'm now two years clean from my bout with stage four colon cancer, such as John was diagnosed with. It makes one feel a bit guilty that John and others still are struggling.

Brian, Great to read, enjoy your gift!

People need stories of inspiration and hope and approval that the C-word doesn't mean `the end` by default.

We haven't discussed much together and we haven't have had a real conversation about personal issues before. But reading this does make me happy for you and I do hope that these past two years have been good for you and that life will continue to give you love, good health and joy. Cheers!

Martin Brundle interviewed Hulkenberg pre-Brazilian GP and asked him outright if he fancies a go at IndyCar.

Hulk totally ducked the direct question and gave some generic 'I just love racing' answer, but did say that open wheel is where he's at. He totally dismissed GT style racing.

Read into this what you will, but he could have simply used the word "No" in reply to Martin and didn't.

Oh? I thought he'd love a season full of close, competitive, flat-out racing where he'd might even stand a chance to win a race.

Great piece by Marshall Pruett on the politics in the background behind the management changes at Laguna Seca.

I was surprised actually, but then I don't know if his definition of GT stretches to DTM - which I suppose would be reasonable as a potential destination-supposition.

Damn. That Board of Supervisors (BoS) is FoS. I wonder how many formal procedures they violated to push this through?

I can see this getting detoured through the courts.

The story exaggerates the future of the track.  It’s a county park in a protected area that can’t be developed.  It’s primarily a club racing, track day and filming track.  Due to noise concerns they are limited, IIRC, to three events of unabated noise per year.  In fact the club racers need a special exhaust/muffler system to run there.

It sure does sound like a sketchy deal though.  When I was there in Sept SCRAMP did a fantastic job.  Of the myriad of tracks I’ve been to it’s one of the best run, most organized.    When Pruett wrote the piece there hadn’t been a vote yet.  Local Salinas TV is reporting today the vote was 5-0 in favor of awarding the contract to Nigiri.

Wrong part of California for Nixon, shurely.

Whenever I think of Richard Nixon and business I think of the time he was nearly disbarred when fresh out of Duke law school for asking the opposing lawyer for tips on how to prepare the case. The lawyer spotted his mark and Nixon's client lost heavily. Politics suited Dick better. Or maybe it didn't.

Simona would BE a surprise, really... she might just be too much wishful thinking on my/our part.  It'll probably be something much less exciting, like Jordan King or similar prospect?

Do we know whether VK's Jumbo backing is involved? I ask because it's a bit strange why the Netherlands' second-largest supermarket chain would want to be hanging around at Indycar races in the US.

Hey, if Binderholz can do it...

“I would also like to thank Jumbo, La Place, KNAF TeamNL, my new partner Basic-Fit — all my other partners — my manager Charles Crews, but most all my family who made this all happen. I’m really looking forward to the start of the season.”

We have seen personal sponsors many times before. Kemppi of Bottas was such an example in F1.

Kemppi has done significant business with F1 teams even before Bottas ever got there.

Name them..? If Im not mistaken, Kemppi only joined F1 due to Bottas at Williams before moving to Mercedes with Bottas.

Jumbo is expanding their supermarket chain towards other countries. Their restaurant brand is La Place (taken over from the now defunct V&D) and have a collaboration with Hema as of last week, also expanding in Europe.

Ziggo (in effect a Vodafone corporation/combination with Liberty Global, where did we see that name before...) is plastered with Verstappen and Jumbo has all kinds of themes around him. Now they can increase their Dutch exposore with another high-profile racing class. Frits van Eerd (owner of Jumbo) is an avid race fan. He runs in LMP2 with Racing Team Nederland, has Dakar, F1 and now Indycar sponsoring. The amount of money needed for Indycar is much less than the tiny helmet spot inside Verstappens helmet exposure wise.

They had dealings a lot earlier. They kept very quiet about it but if memory serves, someone in the know told me they supplied transmission gears to McLaren for example.

Per Robin Miller's Mailbag this morning, Kanaan and Kimball may share a car at Foyt, and Pagenaud may be off the radar for 2021 at SPAM with the hiring of the two kids.
