Pagenaud to SPAM never made sense to me in any case.

Pagenaud could still go to AMSP... who says they couldn't add a third car alongside SQ and Pato?    Although without any really obvious candidate to replace him at Penske, I would think Penske would be very interested in making sure he stays on (presuming he continues to perform).

Chuffed for the kid. Looking forward to what he can do!

Same here!

Would have loved to see him have a crack at Macau this year.. he made quick work of the 2 time winner in the winter series..

Again with the Pagenaud moving on stuff. With his love of sports car racing don't be surprised to see him do another Montoya /Castroneves and stay within the Penske organization. It's not a bad place to be. when he's done driving who knows what might be available to him within Penske Danny Sullivan was partners in Nazareth Andre Ribeiro has Mercedes Benz or had Mercedes-Benz dealerships, he treats his people well.

Jimmie Johnson retiring after next year so he can take his hot at Indy now.  At least he says he wanted to take a shot at it

If de Ferran, Pagenaud's mentor, wasn't at McLaren this wouldn't even merit a mention.  It's harmless speculation, and apparently more baseless by the day . . .

Since 2015, 12 drivers who have raced in have graduated to . and will join them in 2020. Road to Indy is the one true path to IndyCar.

Per Robin Miller's Mailbag this morning, Kanaan and Kimball may share a car at Foyt

Surprised to see that, but I guess with ABC Supply gone, AJFE can use some of that diabetes money Kimball brings - although I would find it surprising that he doesn't just stay at Carlin to do the same.  Maybe he could get more races from Foyt.  But then, it surprises me that Kanaan isn't getting the full farewell season we thought he will get.  Biggest fear: they will be sharing not "a" car, but "the" car... I sure hope there will be two Foyt cars on the grid full time in 2020...  and if there are, still very interesting to see who ends up in the #4 *coughcolinbrauncough*

The spelling of "dank u wel" you mean? No, that's the same in general. The "u" is formal tho. It's as you attend your saying to your boss. Saying "dank je wel" is more something you'd say to friends.

Hoofddorp is one of the couple of towns that are adjacent to the largest airport of the country, Schiphol Airport. Hoofddorp is not a very pretty city in my book. But it is still home to about 80.000 people. Which is a mediocre sized city in the Netherlands. The largest city in the Netherlands is, obviously, Amsterdam which houses a little south of 900.000 people and is growing quite rapidly. Hoofddorp could be seen as a suburban town to Amsterdam.

As a non-expert on Indycar, but as far I can remember in my lifetime Kanaan has been in Indycar. Is this guy ever going to retire?  :stoned:

Serious answer: He made his debut for Tasman Racing in 1998. He's got impressive longevity in the sport.

For a non-serious answer, I'm sure one of the funnier Indycar regulars will provide one.

Does he still have a seat for 2020 at Foyt? If so, that would take him in the 4th decade he's racing in a top tier American open wheel class. 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s.

Would be very sad if Kanaan has to drive only a few races. But otherwise, he was very slow this season.

That would be correct. Where’s our resident US political historian to weigh in with some Nixon parallels?

Who is our resident US political historian?   I'm more on social, geographical, fauna, and yes, flora.

Wrong part of California for Nixon, shurely.

Correct, Risil. To keep this nicely off-topic, Nixon was from Whittier, a quaker city outside of Los Angeles named after John Greenleaf Whittier. More trivia: the team nickname for Whittier College, where Nixon played football (gridiron or American football to those overseas), the Poets.

To get it sort of OT, Richard Petty (and I believe a few more U.S. motorsport figures) met Nixon on the White House lawn, car(s) on display. Not quite as famed as the Elvis' meet-up, but more on-topic at least.

To sum this whole post up: "...it might have been"   ;)

VeeKay was presented and his personal sponsor made it all possible. VeeKay was attending the presentation in race trim, so an orange ECR #21 then?

Most likely the SPAM cars will be orange as well. So I wonder how ECR is going to do it. A yellow/orange car perhaps?

Could be. But Racing Team the Netherlands has yellow/black racing suits. VeeKay has an orange/black one. Perhaps this will change, I dont know. It was just something I thought it was worth sharing. Since the IndyCat didnt pur any news lately.

I can live with 3 orange cars on the grid next season... as long as the AMSP ones are the correct papaya orange, of course!   Also will be immediately evident where the protagonists of the epic VK vs. SQ vs. Pato battle are in the field.

Orange is the Dutch battle color, so that makes a lot of sense.  Can we just skip the next 3 meaningless months and start the season already, please?

I'm one of those people who is really looking forward to the SQ vs VK battle. Including Platipus would be of epic proportions. But my two cents are SQ and Platipus are in a team that is stronger than VKs. For that reason I think the battles between those three would be limited to Platipus vs SQ. It would be a pleasant surprise if VK can get in the mix and he can actually win the rookie championship. Which is his goal as he told.

We shall see if AMSP is really stronger than ECR... on ovals, I don't think so, rather the opposite.  Pigot had some nice showings in the ECR on road courses as well, but I rate VK even higher than him, so we may yet be in for a nice three-way battle.

I think SPAM will really struggle next year, as two rookies will make development work a real challenge, especially on a damper program that McLaren doesn't have native expertise in to draw on.

If they are smart, they get a Dallara on a rig in Woking ASAP, and get Hinch running damper stuff in their simulator all winter because they will need to play catch-up very aggressively.

Isn't damper work more of an engineering exercise?  Not sure how much input on that the drivers actually have.  I also think that people are writing off Pato and SQ too quickly in terms of being inexperienced and/or perhaps not good enough development drivers.  Pato has shown before that he can set up a car, and is a quick learner, and SQ showed great racecraft all around so far... that doesn't come without a good understanding of optimizing your car setup on race day.  If Hinchcliffe was so good at it all, SPM shouldn't have struggled as much as they did in 2019.  Also look what WIckens did right from the beginning as a rookie - it was HIM who really elevated the team in the early 2018 season.  Damn it, I miss him.

My mind keeps jumping to SPQR, the ancient Roman Republic.  And he is from Jupiter, the king of the Roman gods.  But if he was in Asterix & Obelix he would probably wouldn't be Roman but instead the guest Nordic warrior that helps them defeat the Romans.  Anyway...

I love that we continue to have a good mix of nationalities joining Indycar with Pato and VK, along with new Young Americans®.  And as a son of Dutch emigrants, more oranje please!  I need to get a supply of dubbel zout as my race-day snack for next year

Hinch is probably getting Seabass' seat I think.

Now I'm hoping SPAM can make a 3rd car happen because I don't see any other seat for Bourdais and honestly he's a much better driver than Hinch.

Possibly.  If I recall, a few high-ranking engineers also left SPM last season though, so they may have lost more than just Wickens in 2019, that had been key to 2018.  I guess we'll see.

Bourdais wasn't exactly setting the IndyCar world on fire after his F1 endeavors... 6 wins in 8,5 seasons.

I wondered how he survived so long after the reunification.
