Does anyone know why BRP was denied membership of the F1 Constructors Association after 1964, depriving the team of the badly needed start money and effectively forcing them to withdraw?

I understand the team were designing their own cars, so why this decision?

According to Managing A Legend, it was a stitch-up.  BRP did qualify under the F1CA statutes, but nobody came to inspect their cars to check that they were making enough of the components to be called a constructor.  And Ken Gregory was too burnt out to challenge them, or look for sponsorship as he had done before.
