It would be more accurate to give Vettel the same time as Leclerc as he was ahead after final corner but had to slow down.

In this instance I would only disqualify Leclerc's second lap but he failed to improve anyway, Vettel had fair chance on his first run, we're sort of getting into the realms of completely disqualifying the sessions if a yellow flag gets thrown.

Makes sense. But in relation to Albon Verstappen didnt disadvantage himself, he was disadvantaged by the crash.

Yes I know but my only concern was whether Albon had been disadvantaged on his last lap because of the yellow flag and apparently he was running in front of Bottas so he wasn't. so I'm happy now to use Verstappen's second lap in Q3.

Its not big deal, but when you want to find out who has the speed edge, its somehow not convincing when the guy who was quicker coming out of the last corner loses to the guy who was slower over the lap bar final straight.

Sometimes I forget how close together these guys all are from a talent perspective. If I go karting with friends and end up half a second off the best time, I’ll feel like there was nothing in it (over a 45 second lap), yet the biggest gap between teammates is half a second over much longer laps. We make a lot of judgements about people being “hopeless” or “in over their head” over absolutely minuscule differences.

I agree, the average pole time so far is 83.3 seconds (while 10th is ~84.9s), so a tenth of second is ~0.12%.  Russel is up a bit less than 0.7% , Max is up a bit less than 0.5%.

While bad luck should average out, none of these gaps are massive and some are truly down right tiny (which to me means the car is the limiting factor, not the driver :drunk: ).

Thank you Tyker. Would be nice if Verstappen v Gasly and Albon v Kvyat be shown in the table somewhere, at least when you post the year end tally. It is also not clear to me that Verstappen 0.41 does not include his battles with Gasly, e.g.

The thing that’s amazing also is how consistent that advantage is. Like Hamilton is a tenth or two faster than Bottas every year on average. That truly is nothing, but it’s consistent.

Raikkonen -  Gio score doesn't seem correct.

Perhaps because it's based on out and out lap times and not necessarily were the drivers qualified if you are referring to the head to head comparison?

Some Q’s were not counted I guess, cause of issues/penslties.

Same for all other driver pairings (Max -Albon also is not 5-0 for instance).

Yes plus I also don't include wet qualifying sessions.

Why? They are on track at the same time.

Probably because being on track at right time of drying track can cause a massive difference.

It’s not a good reflection of the average pure pace difference.

Imagine one guy managing a lap on a drying track and the team mate not. Difference could be 5 seconds in that Q session.

If you include that in the average, it totally distorts the figures.

I always wait until I have 3 dry qualifying sessions, posting soon.
