Probably someplace useless like Spa, Monza or Montreal....

Montreal has a firm contract until 2029.

Spa and Monza, on ther other hand...

I think the Beijing Olympics showed that if the Chinese decide they want to excel in a sporting activity, then they can quickly find and train people to the highest of standards. The fact is there is an enormous population to select from in China.

This is true but it isn't really the same thing.  To excel at track & field or swimming to Olympic level, you don't have to move to Huddersfield and compete there with largely English-speaking trainers etc.

Look at top-line ski-ing - there are plenty of ski resorts in East Asia but to make it to the World Cup (which is the gold standard, not the Olympics) you need to move to Europe and train there.  So far, there haven't really been any stars from China, Korea or Japan despite pelnty of snow domestically.  Some Japanese ski-jumpers, but you would expect that given their legendary valour.

That's the current 'rule book'. I would not be too surprised to see that book torn up and things being rather different in the future. Tradition can survive and rule for years and years, but then money comes along and things change rapidly.

We've had 16 Chinese Grands Prix now. If the Grand Prix had an immediate effect on locals we should start seeing the first of the young karters from China who got interested at the time.

Well, there's these two chaps who just entered F2 and F3, were little kids around that time, and do have some moderate talent...
