I'm doing some independent research into some of the changes Liberty Media are making, will make or could possible make to F1.

My first attempt at the survey is here https://www.surveymo...co.uk/r/GMFT76C

If you could fill it in I would greatly appreciate it, once I've had some time to analyse it I'll post the results on here when I get the time.

Also if you have some feedback on it or something you'd want me to add to it your welcome to comment on it.

This survey was originally posted three days ago and temporarily removed - after some discussions among the moderating team we have now amended the RC rules to allow bona fide academic research; any other members who wish to conduct similar surveys should read the updated rules!

Thank-you for that, much appreciated. Also I've changed the world just a little bit....

Just finished it. It would have been better if you'd included some questions about the way the sport should be run.

Did consider that. However, I'm reluctant to go down that rabbit hole because while Liberty Media aren't happy with the way the sport is run as far as I'm aware they haven't put forward anything on how that will change so I'm avoiding it. I've already got a question on speculating about things they could change I really don't want to go further than that.

That said I did put "other" comment boxes in the survey, if you feel you need to add something else you are welcome to. Just try to keep it brief and to the point otherwise analysis becomes a lot harder.

Taken it but some of the questions could have been better. Take the netflix show one. I've been an F1 fan for 25 years so drive to survive didn't "increase" my interest but I enjoyed the content and would like to see more of it.

Ummmm I think his research is more focused on the questions he wants to answer than the ones you do :D

Of course, it was just a simple suggestion to help him improve his survey.

Done. Tend to agree with others inasmuch as some of the questions seemed to be loaded in a given direction. Not broad enough.

^ Agreed. Sometimes wanted another option or two, perhaps including a "not applicable". Nevertheless, good to see such a survey taking place, and will be interested in the results.

On the subject of questions, writing good questions is difficult, writing ones that aren't loaded towards a particular answer is even harder. It took me a long time just to decided on these ones and I knew when I did them that they could of been better but I just wanted to put something out there.

There was also more questions I wanted to ask but right now the average time taken to do the survey is less than 5 minutes and I didn't really want it to take longer than that.

As part of my investigation into what Liberty Media are doing to help figure out where to take F1 in the future I did discover something that I kind of suspected but didn't really look into. Before Liberty Media took over F1 there wasn't any department that bothered asking what fans wanted, they just didn't care as it was Bernies way or go do something else.

One of the first things Liberty Media did was create a department to figure out what fans wanted from the sport and part of that was setting up the website: https://www.f1fanvoice.com/. They do survey your opinions, they publish the results for you to see and while you do have to sign up to take part they do offer prizes every now and then with tickets to races.

So while my survey is for my own research if you do want to have a say in a place where your opinions could change things I'd go there.

Whatever the results are of the survey (and there are some interesting trends appearing at the moment) the main thing I'm going to take away from this research is that Liberty Media do care what you think, or at the very least actually ask you what you think. Whereas before Bernie didn't even have 1 person looking into what fans thought about the sport and the direction it was taking. It was all about Bernie and to a lesser extent the teams. Liberty Media are trying to make the sport more about what you as fans want so I would take solace in that.

Re: the 2021 car changes, I don't feel like I know enough about the actual direction of the changes to form an informed opinion. However, I fear they won't go nearly far enough. Have I missed some  news regarding those changes?

Tomorrow I will close the survey, then a few weeks of writing and analysis to do. After that you all get to see what you said.

You've missed nothing. To the best of my knowledge nothing is finalised.

The survey is now closed, 202 people have answered if your curious. So thank-you for your time, since there's only me and I have to write an assignment with this data it will be a while until you see the results but once done I will post them here.

Just so you aware I've got all the data graphed up and I'm finishing typing the full report up right now. I will post those graphs this week sometime so you can argue about what you interpret from them.

Have you already submitted your assignment, dsmx, or would critical comments be useful and/or welcomed?

I know there's not many questions here, but have you done any cross analysis or do you just have the topline results? I'd say that, at a minimum, you should cross the questions by age - I'm sure there will be variations there (202 respondents should show something).

I have already handed it in at this point so now it's over to you, what can you see in the data?

Sadly one of the issues I had with where I hosted the survey was that it wouldn't easily let me split it by age, or at least it wouldn't let me do it easily with the way I set it up. There are many things I could of improved looking back, many of which I did comment on in the final report.

Basically it can be done, I do have the raw data the trouble is i would manually have to sort through the data to create demographic data and I don't fancy doing that 202 times each time I want a different demographic split on each question.

Still the most surprising result for me was that overtaking is less of an issue than predictable races and a lack of flat out racing. Which if I'm honest is what i would prefer as well but the weird thing is as I thought about it I ended up back at refuelling and how that used to tie into qualifying. It used to be you had to start the race on the fuel load you ended qualifying which led to drivers qualifying out of position, with faster cars behind slower cars.

Basically there was a lot I could write about but enough with what I found interesting what do you find interesting.
