Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Ricciardo
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Renault
Best overtake: They were all the same, superzoom down the straight and sitting ducks in front.
Best moment: The very short battle between Bottas and Hamilton off the line, which wasn't very exciting.
DRS + tyres + other: DRS too strong, tyres poor.
Yet another pretty dull Mercedes victory.

I pretty much agree with the ones above me on their choices, so I'm not gonna write them all again. As for the rating, I'd say 4 out of 10 is enough.

Best driver; Valtteri Bottas
Worst diver: Daniel Ricciardo
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Renault
Best overtake: some of Gasly's mid track midfield passes
Best moment: the moments you thought it might get really interesting like 2 or 3 laps before the finish
DRS+tyres: DRS not needed here, tyres puzzling again
And the race in a sentence: Not bad at all, just not matching everybody's expectations
7/10

5/10
Best driver: Bottas
Best team: Well, Merc. I guess?
Worst team: see worst driver
Best overtake: Not an overtake but respectful racing between Lewis and Valterri at the start.
Best moment: The race eventually ended.
DRS + tyres + other: DRS seemed too powerful. Alternative tyre strategies non-existent.
And the race in a sentence: Not bad but not good - I found my attention wandering all too often.

Worst driver: Quite a few to chose from... Ricciardo? HĂĽlkenberg? Kubica? Grosjean?
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Renault, by quite a bit
Best overtake: The cameras probably missed a few... but I'll say Ricciardo on Kvyat for the ensuing lolz
Best moment: Danny Ricciardo bowing his head in shame whilst still in the car
DRS + tyres + other: Why can't the teams play with the pressures again?

Worst driver - nobody stood out as totally awful. Ricciardo's reversing into Kvyat was daft. Kubica was well behind Russell again. Both Haas drivers struggled. Hulkenberg made very little progress but Renault were rubbish. Nah, abstaining from that one. Nobody was awful.
Best team - Mercedes, aka the 'perfect', angelic straight-A student you start to resent.
Worst team - Renault and Haas were pretty rubbish, and Williams did their usual.
Best overtake - more 'nearly overtake' - Bottas vs Hamilton for the first corners was neat.
Best moment - Bottas winning. Always enjoy seeing the underdog have their day.
DRS/tyres - nothing like as much overtaking as expected and the tyres were annoying as ever. One way to do it = snooze.
My finger initially hovered over 1/10, then i thought that was stupid and I'd just be making a crappy point if I did that about the truly worrying state of 2019 F1 where the races are repeatedly absolute wet farts with virtually no real talking points. 3, at a push. Depressingly bad.

Worst driver: can't think of any one outstandingly bad.l, a few not specials and I suppose I'm most disappointed in Leclerc for his mistake in quali
Best team: Mercedes, didn't really make a mistake all weekend.
Worst team: Williams seem to have this locked down for 2019, with a special mention to Renault and their dodgy brakes.
Best overtake: the less said about this the better.
Best moment: the anticipation when my live stream video stopped while the audio continued at the start. I thought Hamilton was about to poach the lead.
DRS + tyres + other : well I'm going to ignore the DRS and tyres. As for other, I don't know whether it's the loss of free to air or 4 GP wins in a row for Merc, but I've really not felt any enthusiasm so far this season.
I rated a 3 and am formula e curious. PM me for more info x

Best driver: PĂ©rez again best of the rest!
Worst driver: Ricciardo for being dumb in the race, minor thumbs down to Leclerc for messing up in qualifying. Both will learn from this.
Best team: Not best per se, but a good result for McLaren.
Worst team: Renault just dire for a manufacturer team.
Best overtake: Albon on Kvyat! Good scrap.
Best moment: Verstappen dancing the Red Bull at the end of the VSC. A nice lively moment!
DRS + tyres + other: Still horrible.
And the race in a sentence: This track is ridiculous, but thankfully the race was spared lengthy safety cars and could play out in all the exciting ways we've come to expect from F1.

Best driver: Bottas
Worst driver: Ricciardo
Best team: Mercedes best team by a mile at the moment.
Worst team: Renault still being beaten by their customer.
Best overtake: Nothing really Gasly had some nice overtakes but then again the tyre gave a big advantage.
Best moment: Ricciardo driving into Kvyat was fun to watch.
DRS + tyres + other: Tyres suck, DRS too easy to overtake.
And the race in a sentence: If Baku is this boring then I wonder what will happen in Barcelona and the rest of the season. Mercedes probably will keep going to sweep the 1 - 2's as Ferrari keep shooting their own feet and Redbull still cant catch up.

I was trying to vote 6 but ended with 8 for some reason.
An entertaining race, not a classic but not boring either.

Worst driver: Grosjean?
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Williams
Best overtake: Albon on Kyat
Best moment: Bottas vs Hamilton at the start
DRS + tyres + other: Tyres were dire. DRS was powerful

I like this track and feel it makes an interesting weekend and will look forward to seeing it next year.
Congratulations to Bottas and Mercedes for the win and 1-2 finish. An honorable mention to McLaren for a good showing.
I have to imagine that more viewers would have liked this race better had the guy who determines what we see on the tv screen focused a little more on the mid field action and a lot less on grandstands and pit wall activity.
It also appears that the amateur pundits were off on their predictions of a first turn/first lap incident caused by a certain Russian driver and an inspired win by a certain Ferrari driver... perhaps next time?

Worst driver: Ricciardo. (Dishonourable mention: Hülkenberg – woeful quali, woeful race.)
Best team: Mercedes. (Honourable mention: McLaren.)
Worst team: Renault – continued disappointment. (Dishonourable mention: Williams – very unlucky, but just as slow as before and also astoundingly incompetent. How do you release KUB nine minutes too early?)
Best overtake: Schumacher on Gelael – in the F2 race...
Best moment: The awkwardness in the cool down room.
DRS + tyres + other: Surprised the Softs never really delivered, not even late into the race – LEC's stint was quite poor as far as I can recall.
And the race in a sentence: Better make sure you have a visa for all those remote locations on the Formula E calendar, Esteban...

Wow, I usually pick pretty much dead-on the popular poll option with these, but I actually ended up higher end here, giving it a 7/10.
And now thinking about it, trying to give a reason why I think that, I'm kinda coming to the conclusion that maybe a 5 or 6 would actually be more suitable. I sometimes get overly wrapped up in strategy intrigue, even when it doesn't come to mean much.

Rewatch the race and see for yourself. It took the tire temps away and sucked the life out of the battle of the top 4.

Best driver: Perez
Worst driver: Kubica
Best team: Mercedes, honourable mention to Mclaren
Worst team: Renault or Haas
Best overtake: Perez on Verstappen
Best moment: Mercedes tussle on the opening lap
DRS + tyres + other:
And the race in a sentence: Not the best Baku, but still a good race where the result was never certain until the last few laps

Best driver: Bottas (holding off Hamilton at the start was skillfully done)
Worst driver: Ricardo
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Ferrari (can't find their butt with either hand)
Best overtake: Not much to talk about here.
Best moment: Ricardo backs into Gasly (because it was memorable, head slapping memorable)
DRS + tyres + other: there was DRS? There were tires.
And the race in a sentence: Worse Call for a VSC ever... Double waved yellows for the entire straight before the accident would be protection enough.
#33
Posted 29 April 2019 - 03:30
Worst driver: Ricciardo
Best team: Mercedes
Worst team: Renault
Best overtake: Both Stroll and Gasly made some decent moves, but I'll go with Perez on Verstappen
Best moment: Verstappen testing the limits of adhesion after VSC
DRS + tyres + other:
And the race in a sentence: Better than China

I think it's time that I abandon F1 and just follow F2. At least, until the FIA screw that up too.
So very, very bored of Merc domination. So revolted by the rule makers applying plasters around the edges while the cancer of horrendous tires, pointless complexity, and insane costs limit what I used to love - great drivers dicing wheel to wheel, showing what marvels the coordination of machine and man could be.
Perhaps I really am too old now, I just can't justify the time I waste on this sport anymore.

You're not abandoning anything. I'll see you here after the Spanish GP.

I'm genuinely confused, what did the VSC change at all?
Before VSC, the top4 was closing on each other. After it, the RB and in a lesser extent Ferrari coulnd't cope with the heat loss in the Mercedes-spec tires and so a tense last 10-15 laps were gone..

Even Baku is getting boring...
The hype for this race is way too big thanks to the last two rounds being exciting. But that clearly doesn't mean that every race there will be top notch. It's just the media trying to hype up everything and fans buy into it everytime...

Best driver: Charles Leclec. He did really well until Ferrari messed up his strategy and then got further hampered by the VSC
Worst driver: fight off between Ricciardo and Hulkenberg
Best team: Honda Engines - They packed a punch and happy to see that progress. In the doom of Merc domination, its refreshing to see a somewhat competitive Honda engine.
Worst team: - Renault. Cyrill's days are numbered
Best overtake: there were a couple, i dont really recall as i was skipping most of the race (watching on record)
Best moment: Ricciardo reversing into Kvyat just about sums it up
DRS + tyres + other: big wide letter box let the cold wind in and the black and soggy rubber was just about holding it together
And the race in a sentence: Glad I went to see Avengers Endgame instead, what a film!

How can Leclerc be best driver after binning it in Q2 and being mediocre after his medium stint? He had to go long, but lost too much time. Others ran the Softs for 10-15 laps and then pitted for Mediums till the end. He had a similar, reversed tactic, but couldn't make it work.

On a weekend that had F1, FE, and BTCC, F1 came off looking the worst.
Hell, F4 at Donington was more entertaining.
Glad I'm not having to pay to watch such a dull event.
