I recently read that MS walks in the fields before every race looking for a four-leaf clover. Can this possibly be true?

I doubt it would go down too well with the top brass at Fiat.
There's another Italian car maker who put cloverleaves on their products...:)

I read something like that, but saying he "walks in the fields before every race" is a bit of an overstatement. I think he said that he considers them lucky, so when he finds one he keeps it with him or something to that effect. The original post makes it sound like he has a fixation on four-leaf clovers and has OCD.

RD: "Mika, come on! You're qualifying in 10 minutes!"
MH: "Dammit, Ron, I haven't found my clover yet!"

Yeap, that's true.He indeed said that. But it's not like ke walks on the field on purpose in order to find that clove. He just said that he had found the one before Suzuka gp last year:)

have just found the article - written by James Mossop - who intimates that he is quite close to MS - and I quote ""Before every race he walks in the fields looking for a four-leaf clover".
I remembered it quite well

At any rate, it's far better than others, who tend to drive to the gravel traps during the race in search of the holy clover:)

 and here was me thinking it was a wind-up

I guess whatever makes him happy ... If Michael thinks that a four-leafed clover will improve his chances for success then so be it. Many drivers have superstitions or routines they go though because they think it will improve their luck too. I suppose having something associated with luck near you will give you a wee bit more confidence and the idea that you can actually succeed - as they say, "to win you have to think you can win". Obviously Michael thinks the clovers will help him win, and to a degree it will psychologically - so hunt clovers and win in the Red ;)

I'm not convinced, but it is a hell of a lot smarter than Johnny Herbert, who urinated on his mechanics, and Alex Wurz, who dressed like a color blind dork, to keep each of their lucky streaks in tact. If they were so superstitious, why didn't either of them change their patterns when their results stunk?
