What's the deal with the Attack Mode graphics? There's a highlighted names, some arrows, fewer arrows, a timer. I'll assume this makes sense to long-time followers of the series, but in the highlights I saw tonight I was none the wiser about it.

Seeing the cars drive through familiar F1 settings was nice; they looked pretty quick.

That said, if a series is going to bolt on an awful Halo - it's quite the eye-roller to see race-control let people drive around with half-detached bodywork. It's not like that could ever fall off, right... and go flying in---- oops, there it goes.

Highlighted names are the drivers who have activated the attack mode. The mode lasts for four minutes, which is represented by the four (and decreasing) chevrons next to the name.

One chevron=one minute of attack mode remaining. The name is highlighted and the arrows to tell you that, that driver is in attack mode.

When it gets to 30 seconds of attack mode remaining, a timer appears next to the driver's name and it counts down to 0 until they run out.

Thanks!

Is it correct that the Attack Mode boost is applied at all times during the duration, and not something a driver has to apply like the button-operated KERS-system F1 used to have?

Correct. When the driver is on the throttle pedal of course.  :D

Yes, these cars normally race with 200KW of power, when attack mode is activated that increases to 225.

Ok so da Costa has been excluded for exceeding max power, getting up to 228kW when he should have been at 200kW because he accidentally flicked it into the wrong mode during his fight with Evans. Abt has taken a time penalty for his collision with Turvey. Both dropped out of the points.

Effect on the championship is that Lotterer is now only one point behind Vergne at the head of the standings ( :drunk: ) and Mitch's deficit is a little bit reduced to 18 points. Every driver in the top seven is within 25 points of Vergne.

Nice race, but in 2021 they have to include the entire track. The short version would be a great Go-kart track, but full-sized cars? Nope.

Just watched it. Great race with a lot of ballsy, clean passing.
Turn 1 tweak was spot on, the 4 way battle for the victory was so nice to watch.

For Monaco standards, that was awesome

Techeetah are dominating FE, I can't watch it anymore, it's sooo predictable, you just know what is going to happen in the race.   ;)

(sarcasm of course)

I am trying to like FE as I like the concept of electric cars but the gimmicks with boosts and the slow speeds are working against it IMO.

I will keep an eye on it though.

These cars make such a strange noise that I cannot fall asleep watching it like during F1 races. I can remember having a nap almost during each race 2000-2004 during Schumi era...

I still don’t know exactly who it was who hit Bird. His overtakes back through the field were outstanding.

Evans hit him apparently. He also hit da Costa as well which da Costa says moved his steering wheel which meant he accidently selected a higher power level and therefore got a power use penalty.

I would like to see footage of that and of the accident between abt and turvey, and more of the accident between some and frijns. From the replay it looked like Frijns just drove straight into the inside barrier before collecting sims, and I would like to see earlier in the replay to see how frijns got into that position.

TV Direction misses lots of stuff today. Even at one point Jack Nichols was commentating by looking on the position tower on screen to talk about the crazy midfield while we were looking at the front runners who at that point were a bit spread out.

FE must have this footage it would be nice to see some of it to help piece together what happened.

Putting any footage of action/crashes/mistakes that were missed in the broadcast would certainly be a good use of their Youtube channel.

I think they will do that, over the next week or two the 'best on-boards', 'best radio' and  'crashes and spins' get edited together. I'd imagine some more clarity might appear in them. Hopefully.

I think you have to keep in mind that its early days, the equivalent of watching F1 in 1955, the series is going to develop a lot, get faster, bigger, etc. Some of the original and current aspects are not ideal but necessary to build audience and entice growth.

Todt mostly ruined this race for me. I looked forward to the full track!
Is Todt protecting FE or the rest of automotive?
Would FE get close to some F1 laptimes from a distant past? Would it be plenty interesting to watch?

I keep contending that now with all the big bucks in FE, this spec series could and should get real aero closer to LMP focusing on ground effect, proper slicks and proper wets. The batteries could be better I'm sure. For road relevance and spectacle in the wet, allow AWD cars.
F2 pace is doable. Let alone with battery swap pitstops. Have two battery swaps allowed, smaller more peppy battery, and it's a grand prix pretty much.

Patience... wait for Gen 3 cars. But, probably it will be Gen 4 before we see what you are describing.
