Welcome one and all to the fifth round of the FIA Formula Indycar Series! This Saturday it is the 14th non-consecutive running of the INDYCAR Grand Prix* from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
*NOW don’t be confused! For the second year in a row this is called the "INDYCAR Grand Prix" (yes all caps). According to reports, this name change was done because there was confusion amongst the general public as to whether the so-called Grand Prix of Indianapolis (also briefly sponsored by Angie’s List) was a Formula 1 race or not.
But we who are motorsport experts are not so gullible! I for one have been posting authoritatively from my parents' basement on this forum since 2013, the very year before this race returned to our shores, so I know perfectly well what this race is; that historically it ran for eight years, disappeared for six years for reasons that are unclear to me, and is now back for its sixth year in its current format.
I mean, OBVIOUSLY this is a Formula Un race, because look at the stacked lineup of Formula drivers!
Takuma Sato
Alexander Rossi
Eric Marcusson
Alex Chilton
Pencer Spigot
Marco Andretti
Frood
Annabel Leigh, the "Swiss Miss"
Jean Girard
Second of all, this Formule1 Hotels race is on Saturday CATURDAY SATURDAY to accommodate the European race fans, as I believe that is Sunday lunchtime for them. DO be sure however to check your local listings for your local time zone. The race will not conflict with the unaffiliated Zembla Grand Prix, which is run later on Sunday; the date change by the way has nothing to do with Mother's Day in the USA, especially not for that execrable Charlotte Haze will she not just leave me in peace.
Third of all, this must be a Preparation H race because, for one thing, we’re bypassing a perfectly solid oval course and instead run on a series of gullies and access roads that might as well have been explored by Kimi Raikkonen, the well-known Finnish orienteering legend.

Note for locals: Because of oddity of the road course configuration, I dropped into the DMs of longtime Autosport forum poster EMC2 who has been going to the race for eleventy years now and he says that the best place to view the race is from the North by Northwest Vista (mind the strafing planes) and not, as commonly supposed, on the spectator mounds in the infield, as he claims they are much too dangerous (picnic, lightning) and therefore not worth the risk.
So don’t let the name fool you. This race is, as the kids say, "SO IN THE CAR." If you great unwashed masses want all that gauche business of endlessly turning gauche, then come back in a couple of weeks.
Even a quick glance at the Indycar website will confirm to you that is Formula Indy and NOT that other American-run series that is famous for its wackiness, silliness, confusion, and non-sequitur racing. Because motorsports connoisseurs like us know that THAT series is basically a lottery. I mean, where else would you find a jobber like Tiago Monteiro sharing a podium with the likes of GODS like Schumacher and Barrichello?
I mean come on people! LOTTERY!!!
And, finally, just for reference, here is the current points standings:
Any questions?
