The radio commentator just said that it's fitting they get a bottle of champagne for winning because Simon Pagenaud is French!

Wont' they all be disappointed when it ends up being Korbel.  :(

What an excellent race, even with Rossi not in the picture. Weird to think I'll be there in 2 weeks time ( without the rain hopefully)

5 different winners from 4 teams in the last 5 races....its nice not knowing who will win each week

What's not to like about this race, it pretty much had everything and for me it started at 12.30pm so I saw it live.

Best race of the weekend so far.

Other than the fact I swapped him out for Rahal less then an hour before the start of the race, i'm really happy for Pagenaud!

I swapped Pags for Power.

2nd, 7th, 9th, Herta for me in fantasy. Semi decent? Probably my best score so far this season.

Mercedes front row lockout.  Better than half-second gap to their nearest competitor.  And all the passing opportunities provided by the Circuit de Catalunya?  I think we can reliably conclude, even at this early date, and without a crystal ball, time machine, or the assistance of OvDrone, that we have witnessed this weekend's finest racing.   :D

Same for me except I had Bourdais instead of Rahal.

I intentionally didn't pick Pagenaud to give him some good luck. You're welcome, Simon   ;)

A cracking, cracking drive though, and a very well deserved win. It's been a tough couple of years, so it's nice to see him with the sort of pace he showed in his title winning year.

I picked a plethora of Penskes, and even after their terrible qualy, I stuck with them out of honor.

Probably be better off with pickled peppers...

For the record, my Penske loyalty got me 2nd place in the fantasy, behind Gforce.  Picking Helio at 15 paid off but not because of anything Helio did!

I'm happy for Pagenaud because I really didn't think we'd see this again for a while.

Feels a bit like Jimmy Vasser, Houston 2000. Welcome back champ. And your wife is lovely.

Unfortunately I had to skip the last part of the race after the final restart because I was dead tired and live in an unforgiving time zone… so do we have any explanation on what in the world happened to Hinchcliffe? He lost seven positions from when I last tuned in.

Very well done to Harvey btw. Next to Pagenaud that’s the best story of the race for me.

Big thumbs up to Indycar for not spoiling the result on the thumbnail image of their Youtube highlights videos, as they did at the start of the season.

Bit of a chaotic start in which it was unsurprising to see Dixon emerge on top. Unfortunate to see Newgarden had pitstop problems.

Great comeback by Pagenaud - I imagine it'd have been good fun to see the gaps come down live.

Turn your gaze to Monza and be pleasantly surprised.

Great race. What a weekend from Harvey, that came from nowhere. And someone please retire Kanaan, he isn't going to do it himself.

Ohoh,Good race I enjoyed but I have the feeling I'm not gonna like the winner....

Incredible, All Indy GP's up til now won by Team Penske already ....
Looks as if the string will be continued

Pagenaud won the first Indy GP with Schmidt

Pagenaud won the first Indy GP with Schmidt

Thanks for correcting me, had entireliy forgotten that!

When I think Pagenaud I only have visions of my eyse being hurt because of Menard sponsored bright yellow #22's

Happy to see that it is the case and that team Penske had lost an Indy GP after all.

Given the fact how Indy appears to be not only rewarding efforts but also maintis traditions and strings: Might give us hope for the future...

But yesterday was deserved and brilliant, no doubt about that.

Translation:

The win! Assuredly one of the most accomplished of my career. Everything was perfectly aligned and to win at Indy today for the third time is a really special moment. I am happy to say we have kept the wins of the GP within the Penske family with Will Power

Wow wow wow wow WOW!

Robin Miller had a column on Racer last week asking his readers what their idea of a good race was. Well, my answer would simply be yesterday's race. It had everything.

• Great start (but that's always a given on this track)
• Bizarre incidents (not what made the start great; Helio beaching it after all that work was  )
• Five-dimensional strategy (three separate viable strategies)
• Pit-lane chaos (particularly Newgarden and Rosenqvist, and in the latter's case I didn't realise the pit speed limit was 88 miles per hour)
• Weather (perfect for a wet race)
• Passing EVERYWHERE (somewhat due to the above, but still)
• Great race craft from everyone involved (even freakin' FERRUCCI)
• Winner uncertain until the last lap (for the right reasons; not a pass/repass festival or BS yellows)

That was a textbook example of a classic. Easily the best Indycar race I've seen since Fontana 2015, and that list includes Barber, Mid-Ohio, and Gateway last year and every trip they've made to Texas since then. What an absolute stunner.

Well well well... Indycar delivers yet again. (Quelle Surprise)
My boys at Team Pags will be SO relieved as will the man himself.

So... the inevitable question now is...
Who’s starting the 500 build up thread ?

Also, the ads on American television are just unbearably frequent

You wouldn’t be new to American television broadcasts would you?

Raise money, I gather. She's got to be very good at it or else she wouldn't be there every May.

Thanks to Maximillian for laboring through the night to invent my month of May avatar..

And why not?

1 million viewers for NBC -- highest ratings for the Indycar Grand Prix in 5 years.

Best of all, there was a peak of 1.4 million viewers for the final laps.

He's definitely on it now, in the confirmed SPM 77 car (in conjunction with some random small time NASCAR team based out of Chicago).

In my defence, the Servia announcement came only after I posted!

Maybe the people at Stange were blissfully reading the forum, only to notice my post and think "s***, we have forgotten something".  :o
