"As ever, watch the lights. 5 on and then they will all go out.
A pause of up to 3 seconds, 44 laps, the Belgian Grand Prix, the race that is crucial to the world championship.
Hakkinen on the left, Coulthard on the right.......... YES! YES! IT'S GO!
And Coulthard drags, Hakkinen gets away well, look at Eddie Irvine coming up on the inside, Villeneuve goes up into 2nd position, Schumacher is down into about 6th position. Bad start by the Ferrari.
Great start by Eddie Irvine, VILLENEUVE! Look at Villeneuve! And into the wall, who was that?"
"Coulthard, Coulthard in the wall!"
"It's Coulthard, David Coulthard into the wall. They'll stop the race, they'll stop the race."
"They'll have to red flag this!"
"OH This is terrible, Look, OH this is quite appalling! This is the worst start to a Grand Prix that I have ever seen in the whole of my...........life."
"TOTAL CARNAGE"

Not really spectacular commentary but "Is that Glock?"

I think James Hunt giving his opinion on Arnoux was great. Also at the 1990 Portugese GP when Alliot took himself and nearly took Mansell out, James said something like "Look at this idiot...Alliot, the man who crashes in every grand prix...and if he drives like that, he shouldn't be in them".
Ralf saying "we ****ed up" live on ITV after qualifying.

"I was racing, I was faster, I passed him, I won".
After Vettel initially apologised over disobeying team orders to win the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix, he then cut the bullsh*t and admitted he had no resmorse over it.
This impressed me - it was a lot more honest and worthy of respect than a fake apology.

I feel that some of Murray Walker's best lines came not from his F1 commentary, but rather his BTCC commentary.
For instance, "The car upside down is a Toyota" - a play on a slogan Toyota used for a while:
Honourable mention to John Cleland this quote after the infamous title-deciding collision between himself and Steve Soper in 1992..."the man's an animal".
And his fantastic bit of commentary from the WTCC a few years ago:
Edit: just remembered this all time classic too:

Olav Mol, last year about one of Fernando's worst qualifying. 'Well, he has to settle for that, for the moment.' Then, unexpected shot of Alonso's glorious girlfriend. 'And he has to settle for that, too!'
(The pun falls a little bit flat because of the translation. In Dutch Mol said: 'Fernando heeft er maar mee te doen.' And then: 'En daar moet hij ook mee doen.' And in Dutch: 'Mee doen,' means, you know...

I liked this bit in Herbert's Beyond the Grid interview, discussing safety in F1 and how it affects how drivers drive. Tom Clarkson was looking for an answer regarding aggressive fighting and car-to-car contact, but Herbert took the conversation to paved run-off areas and the mental effect they have on drivers. I feel this is an underexposed growing issue in F1 and I was happy finally someone in the paddock spoke about it.
TC: Does (increased safety) affect your attitude to how you drive?
JH: It does, yes. You were always aware that if you went too fast through a corner you knew you were gonna be on that kerb, you knew if you just popped a wheel off of that kerb, you were on the grass, and once you get on the grass of course the car is gonna get taken off and the barrier was only a couple of meters away. So you always knew there was going to be a loss of either track time, qualifying time, or possible points in the race. Of course, nowadays there is no thought process about "what if I go wide?" Doesn't matter anymore, because they go off on the run-offs area, and that's a mental approach that has changed. That safety element is around them in the cockpit itself, it was around us, but there was then an edge outside that cockpit that was always ready to bite you, and that was a skill being able to get on the very very edge. And that's a skill, you've got to have that ability to be on the edge rather than having an edge that actually spreads another 50 meters. That's not an edge. It’s a very different mental approach.

The last lap of the 2011 British Superbikes will always be a classic for me, the commentators are dieing, they can;t contain their excitement and running out of breath at the end.
Amazing last lap and amazing commentary. Not becuase it was great, its all over the shop, but becuase it was real, they almost forgot they were commentators, they were fans!

Martin Brundle's post-race interview with Kimi Raikkonen at the 2018 USGP was priceless. My fav part .... Kimi on his first win since 2013.
Martin: Been a long time coming, you must be more pumped up than that.
Kimi: Uuuuummmm, well obviously I'm much happier than finishing second.

Bit of a vague one, I did a quick google for it but couldn't find it, I think it was late 90s GT racing, someone pulled off the car radio played the driver saying "The f'ing clutch is f'ing f'ed!", the commentators response as "I think there's a clutch problem".
Steve.

That V10 engine sound in the Monza park through the trees... Schumacher wringing the neck of that Ferrari in race trim... At the time I couldn't stand him. So many years later, I wish we saw F1 cars going on a knife's edge in a race again like Schumacher showed us so many times!
Classic, classic F1!

Mine, not so much a favourite, and it wasn't that funny, but it was Spain 1994. When Schumacher was stuck in 5th gear and that annoying little prat Jonathan Palmar, who could scarcely hide his hatred of Schumacher, was prattling on about how he couldn't be stuck in 5th gear, this isn't verbatim but it went something like this.
'There's no way he could be stuck in 5th gear, he may have lost one or perhaps even 2 gears but he absolutely could not be going this speed in one gear'
All the while Schumacher's onboard and telemetry was on screen clearly showing him stuck in 5th and if he shut up and listened to the onboard for just 5 seconds he would have heard the engine as it was labouring out of the temporary chicane and clearly not changing gears..... it was a hilarious piece of unprofessional commentary...

There is one of the mid 80s season reviews which has the drivers take turns commentating. I can't for the life of me find a clip, I had it on VHS years ago.
Ayrton Senna was commentating.
"And here's De Cesaris (I think) having a small accident, the car slightly damaged."
What you're watching is De Cesaris spinning and rolling his car on a grass bank, and smashing it to bits..
