Nobody started the thread?  FINE, here it is... since testing has now officially begun!

Ripped off from WBIW:

The lead-up to the Indianapolis 500 officially starts today with a busy day at the IMS.

Indy 500 practice starts at 11 a.m. this morning with a veteran's only session which will also include drivers who passed their rookie orientation at the late-April testing session. Rookie orientation will take place from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. this afternoon and then from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., everyone will be allowed to run practice laps.

Practice sessions run through Friday. Qualifying begins this Saturday a little before Noon and will run until 5:50 p.m. Saturday will decide positions 10 through 30 as well as who will compete in the Fast 9 on Sunday.

Sunday will see both Bump Day and Pole Day combined. The Fast 9 drivers will compete for the pole position from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Then an hour later qualifying will run until 5:50 p.m. to decide who will fill positions 31 through 33 and who will be bumped out of the field.

Fernando is on track!!

Testing is streamed LIVE on NBC Sports Gold.  Do we have a Nigerian as well?

Why is Alonso lapping in the veteran session?

Alonso can run as a driver who has competed in the 500 before, doing a "refresher course" (as does Conor Daly, for example)

The fight for the triple crown is on! Great seeing Alonso on track again with all the other IndyCar drivers. Best of both worlds!

They don't over here either.  Not for free anyway.  You've got to subscribe to Indycar Gold.  One of the best subs I've made.  Coverage is good.

Exactly, I would actually pay to watch practice if it were actually available in Europe.

They are shooting themselves in the foot so hard. They have someone like Alonso, who brings in a lot of exposure from Europe to Indycar but then shut off that market completely only because of some stupid contract with an American broadcaster, it's so short sighted.

Funny how people got spoiled because of Youtube and live streams.

I remember the many years I was dependent on one or more little newspaper articles to find out what happened over there.

If I was so lucky to those being printed to begin with.

The most memorable of those: May 17th 1982. (Memorable but because of bad reasons)

The Netherlands has no newspapers released on Sunday and if what happened on Pole Day '82 was shown on Dutch TV, I don't know but I doubt it. Anyway, like the week before (May 8th 1982......) I was at work, my weekly job in a restaurant where I worked from 4 to whatever time tall work was finished.

No news whatsoever found about Pole Day at Indy but I bought a newspaper on that Monday the 17th. First page of the sports section: No warning when opening it but there it was:

Gordon Smiley's very first second as a dead person as registered in a picture. (thus an early frame of his wreck within the fencing)

Of course that was the kind of info worth to pay attention to if it came to Indy, and so nice in line with the events of the week before...

Two weeks later a little bulletin of the race.

That's what I got for local printed info about Indy that year.

And now, being disappointed about no free live stream ....

How times have changed...

Yes, they came up with various bits and pieces they can bolt on to the main wings (essentially Gurney Flaps) to play with handling of the cars.

Thanks! might be the best we can get over here in Europe.

Unbelievable the ABC Gold refused to make something available for European fans. Missed opportunity, certainy given the presence of Alonso.

Oof, just tuned in to see McLaren getting towed away. They are in troubbble if they don't get on this soon. Either that, or they're just going to paint up a Carlin Papaya.

Btw guys, NBC Sports Gold sent me a questionnaire which I submitted and took up the cause of overseas coverage.  So I expect it to be fixed by tomorrow okay great glad that's settle.

HERTAMANIA causes the first real yellow of the day (other than debris), spinning coming off pit exit. Luckily his trajectory kept him going straight, so he didn't slip up the the track Zanardi-style, thank goodness.

"Watching" on app in Germany. A bunch of dots going round and round. Can click on names and get in car telemetry. Choose a name of someone out front and see how they do for top end without tow. Looks like generally 225 is fastest top speed without a tow. Saw Power touch 235 with a tow. Lap speeds look really fast. I thought last year they came out fast on first practice day?

Yes, but I think it will be the same radio broadcast as the Indycar Radio on https://tunein.com/r...-Radio-s269629/ or https://racecontrol.indycar.com/ when they are live. So the main difference is that 1070 The Fan is an FM station.

There were technical problems with O'Ward during his rookie orientation, so he wasn't able to finish it. They're working on the car with Max doing the driving because Pato isn't allowed yet.

They said Pato will finish his ROP tomorrow at 10:20am.
