Here are some photos of Niki’s funeral in Vienna today:https://diepresse.co...a-war-ein-Stern
Nigel Mansell can be seen with Alain Prost in one of the photos, although he’s not mentioned in the text.
(with thanks to ‘jstrains’ who first posted the link in RC)

Thanks Tim, that really brings it home.

O/T - looking at that gallery, Nelson Piquet doesn't look to be in the best of health.

One gets the impression that all of them are getting old...

But it must be the first time so many of the '70s drivers have got together in a long time.

It does.

Very moving, as was that cartoon posted earlier in the thread.

That's a bit harsh, I think he looks OK for his age, 75 isn't it? I'd say he looks better than JYS who's only 3 or 4 years older, though a decent haircut would improve both men's looks.

Longer hair rarely looks good on balding older men, and a "comb-over" never fooled anyone. A tip. In my experience from friends and overheard comments, women hate them on their partners.

Not being harsh, just seems like more feature change than others

Bear in mind Laffite has Parkinson's Disease which obviously has its own effect on the body aside from age.

I wasn't aware of that. I think Patrick Tambay suffers from Parkinsons too. Awful disease.

Sadly, yes, Tambay too.

Laffite announced it last year (he was very upbeat too)- like Tambay's, it hasn't progressed dramatically yet as both are still making public appearances, but it's still a horrible disease to have. https://www.lequipe....arkinson/897468

Continuing the Laffite off-topic, Peter Windsor just posted "A Paris lunch with Jacques Laffite (1/3)"

fyi, 6 minutes of intro before the interview begins

I love that guy, was sure nice to me as a young journo-photographer.

I can't even look at him without my brain inventing a shrieking V12, and agree he looks fine for his age.

We are diverting, but I have fond memories of Laffite, and Ligier.

He lost a Zandvoort Grand Prix with a spluttering Ligier from Lauda in the Ferrari. But my crude stopwatch clocked him 0.5 sec faster in the daunting Scheivlak downhill for several laps.

Also, Lafitte in practice showed a Gothic line in the Tarzan hairpin: braking deep into the corner, then accelerating away - rather then entering wide following the supposedly ideal line.

And weren't there 2 seasons where he would have been winter champion taking the last half season and the following first half season into consideration?

Then, I read his column about travelling from Paris to the south of France, and recognizing how the local people blended with the region showing their attachment to the region and local dialect, observations you'll not find easily anywhere.
