And da Costa had one too so the net advantage over the race was basically nothing

Well that's Attack Mode round 2 neutralised  :(

They really ought to deactivate it when a FCY comes out

I think he's had it every race, as had Vandoorne, you just never hear about when it's used because it never makes a difference.

Not that I'm complaining, I'd rather it didn't.

Why have all of the guys gone for attack mode straight away?

Surely Audi have played a blinder here.

Looks like Vergne and di Grassi are bolting away as our principle title contenders. Three more race to go.

Ah but a bad qualifying or either or both of them and the championship could be wide open again!

Seeing the cream rise to the top now though, which is good to see. Should quieten at least a little some of the 'it's too random' comments   ;)

That's it, but New York is a double header

LOT of action, but not messy like in some other races this season. I enjoyed it so much i forgot to comment here  :smoking:  :smoking:

Hope tempelhof retains its calendar spot.

The layout can be changed with so much freedom here.

Also, incredible crowd : O

Very enjoyable race indeed - just lots of close, clean racing. Would be even better if it wasn't di Grassi who won  :p

After the FCY the Dragon team told López he didn't need to save energy. They were wrong. In this interview (in Spanish) he sounds downbeat: he says he's not enjoying himself and insinuates he doesn't want to continue racing in this conditions after this season (The car has had all sorts of problems, including rear brake issues, launch control issues, etc). He would like to see out the season but he needs to talk to Jay Penske and see what is the best for both parties. Finally he says he could step down from his drive before the end of the year if that's the best for the team.

Now that was a proper grown-up race, on a track wide enough to allow real racing instead of banger racing tactics.  Probably the most convincing FE race so far.

But what happened to live TV coverage - or was I missing something?  I picked up the race off YouTube as there are only highlights available until the BBC Red Button coverage at 3am tomorrow ,

A race for the motorsport purist, would have liked a bit more of a battle for the lead but the battles behind Di Grassi were very clean, and enjoyable.

As for the championship, it's probably down to 4-5 drivers - tension is building now, every position counts and the battles will only intensify.

Like him or hate him, Di Grassi is a legend in this series. He's up there, every single season. I'd still say JEV has an advantage in terms of being Champion this season but part of me would actually like Di Grassi to do it. He always does well here though.

BBC Red Button (Freeview Channel 601) had it live 11:30-13:30.

I want more clean races like that!

Monaco too, was very good from that point of view.

My favourite races so far this season!

1) Mexico

2) Marrakesh

3) Berlin
4) Riyadh-Rome
6) Santiago-Monaco

.....

8) Paris

.....

9) Sanya
10) Hong Kong

HWA always delivers in terms of visual goodness

We haven't really had a bad/boring race this season have we. I thought today we might get one but we didn't.

I thought that was the best race I've seen for a long time. The track suits the cars perfectly... Several times cars were running side by side through 3-4 corners to complete/defend passes. Great positioning of the attack mode making it just possible to get the cut back. Driving standards were great too, my only complaint is allowing activation of attack mode under fcy

Decent race. It feels as if the adults have finally turned up, and the title race has become serious.

I didn't realise Buemi had only just got his first podium of the year, becoming the 15th different podium finisher this season and funnily enough moved him from 15th to 10th in the standings, certainly a strange season for him, now moved ahead of Bird who's season has rather fallen apart.

I've never been a fan of Di Grassi but you can't not respect his speed and consistency, at this rate it'll be 5 top 3 championship finishes in a row.

Deactivating Attack Mode activation under FCY seems like a no brainer to me.

Unless the FCY in in the last 5 minutes of the race I guess, which would prevent someone leaving it late from taking it. But still.

Yep, definitely the best track for FE on the calendar. Plenty of space, great placement of attack mode and decent racing all round. If they can sort out the other track designs to encourage overtaking and clean racing this series will elevate to another level.

To me, it looks like Gen 2 is much powerful in the straightline & acceleration, but has even less grip than the Gen 1 car.

Still, over 2 seconds/lap improvement over last season.
And i love seeing the driver working so hard to keep the thing on track, so no complaints from me  :smoking:

As an aside, Georgie Barrat has slotted in seamlessly as Nicki's replacement.
