Just trying to keep up with the Goodwood Festival of Speed today on their live feed.     Unable to attend this year so will miss seeing Nick Fennell's Lotus 38/7 in the metal but the glimpses of it on screen have, to some extent, made up for that.   Well done to everyone involved with this car's restoration and to Classic Team Lotus in particular for ensuring that it is presented in impeccable fashion.     I know that it appeared on display at the recent London Concours at the Honourable Artillery Company and I look forward to being able to see it for real at some stage.

The otherwise very good FOS coverage was spoiled to some extent by the principal commentator twice referring to this car as being Jim Clark's Indy winner from 1967.   Right year for the car but two years out from "the greatest victory" of 1965.    A pity, as 38/1 made an unforgettable appearance at Goodwood in 2010 so they really should have known but I guess it's fairly easy to make an error given that the Lotus presence began in 1963 with the Type 29 and, following the unfortunate experience the following year with the Type 34, finally secured victory with the 38.   Jim Clark drove three separarte Type 38s: in 1966 finishing second with 38/4 and then retiring with engine failure in 1967 with 38/7.    A truly great and influential racing car and truly delightful to see it presented so magnificently by its current owner.

Many thanks for posting such a clear photograph. It was difficult getting a good representative shot at the FoS with the car under the canopy, - space and sunlight being the problems.
I suspect that people often forget just what a brilliant clean sheet design Len Terry came up with for this car, plus his self-venting and thus time saving refuelling churns. Folk would do well to remember it was not always Chapman, Chapman, Chapman.

I tend to use Thursday as the canopy day, and Friday as the running day...

When Nick Fennell bought this car from a Japanese collector in 2014 or 15 t was actually in the 1965 Indy winning TL colour scheme. It also didn't have the extra side tank used in '67 so its nice to see how accurately CTL have restored it.

In its Green livery Nick very kindly lent it for the unveiling of the 1965 victory plaque unveiling at Cheshunt on the 50th anniversary of Clark's win.

Ensign, do you have a picture of the car at the FOS I could use on my Lotus 38 page to show its latest livery?

Many thanks

Yes, I still haven't sorted them out.  Thing that struck me was the white tank on the nearside.

Allen, I can do clear paddock shots broadside of each side, 2 of each, full length and just of the ad bloc along the cockpit. The n.s in white highlights the tank bulge clearly as opposed to the red off side.
If you are still on the old e mail address I will ping them up to you, otherwise e mail me with new address.

Totally delighted to hear that Lotus 38/7 has been declared the winner in the Restoration category of the inaugural RAC Historic Awards.   The awards event took place last Thursday evening at the Club's famous venue in Pall Mall.   38/7 was up against the 1939 Bentley Corniche restored by Bentley Motors and the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show Land Rover restored by Land Rover Classic.  The historic ex-Jim Clark Lotus entry for the 1967 Indy 500 was the subject of a dedicated three-year restoration programme by Classic Team Lotus for owner Nick Fennell and has appeared at a few events during 2019 including the Goodwood Festival of Speed.   The attention to detail is magnificent and a great tribute to the skills of all involved at Hethel

As a bonus for Clark fans, the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum at Duns was awarded Collection of the Year against a stromg entry that included The Bugatti Trust and the British Commercial Vehicle Museum at Leyland.
