Community Service ?
FFS..U-tah tah... strip him of the title and DQ the team.
Anything else is Bad PR for the series.

Jp

The team did no wrong.

The debris explanation seems like a excuse to somehow get out of this more lightly. Every sane person would ask race control to do something, not for your team mate to engineer one.

And no, it would be bad PR to make a big thing out of this when you have a excuse the majority of those who are even aware of this is willing to lap up. But it stays morally questionable at best.

Come on, Jp, that is a completely disproportional response. Honestly.

The team did absolutely nothing wrong so there's literally zero justification to disqualify them. So that's just that.

Vergne is a little more complicated as he needs some form of disciplinary action for a stupid and unsportsmanlike radio message, and one single day does feel too lenient (though, I guess Verstappen only got 3 for literally attacking another driver). But full disqualification? Come on now.

And bad PR for the series? I'm fairly sure the full on disqualification of a driver AND team would do more harm to the series than good. FE should be feeling insanely lucky this isn't even close to being on par with Singapore 2008, else they would be in huge trouble with the level of repose they would've had to have carried out. Especially with the number of people who would gleefully see FE die and deliberately blow it out of proportion to make that happen.

I was wondering about that angle as well. The large chunks of debris was not cleared for a significant number of laps. He must have called for the SC from Race Control multiple times, believing it to objectively be the right call first...surely? After 10+ minutes of nothing being done about said debris I can imagine the frustrations building and good judement fading away.

I just don't buy the idea that he never voiced such concern to Race Control first. That would be a truely insane action and worthy of a much harsher penalty.

Race Control leaving multiple pieces of debris on the track was irresponsible.

They have thrown FCY and SCs on the past for lesser things.

There does appear to be a lot of indecision in Race Control about how to deal with incidents, there always seem to be a delay prior to action being taken as of they are having a deep discussion about what to do.

Here's what I would be looking to do with the New York layout for the next few years if possible...

A clean race just proving that FE can have clean, hard racing.

Very happy for JEV, fully deserved - not going to comment on the 'call for the SC' because as you have noticed, people who don't like FE came on here and were all over it so rather than appreciating what an amazing season is has been and how much this series has grown this season alone, they are all over that one incident and nothing happened anyway, as the team did not tell Lotterer to stop and bring out a SC.

So many great drives this season too. How did Buemi end up 2nd??? He was 13th a few races ago and 8th coming into New York.

Mitch Evans has been great as well - driver of the season for me (if I had to choose)

Di Grassi slugging his Audi into championship contention as usual.

9 different winners from 14 races. Brilliant season, a classic season - we'll look back at this in the future and remember it for sure.

Cannot wait for Season 6, the racing has just been phenomenal and I look forward to even more.

That's a great work! šŸ’„šŸ’„

I would only ditch the turn 3 hairpin, one is enough in the circuit!

NYC has been one of the (positive) surprises of the season for me.
Was not a fan of it in previous previous seasons, but the tweaks improved racing dramatically!

And like you just shown, it can be even improved for the future!

The track that needs a major redesign for next season is Mexico City. Others could do with minor tweaks, but in MC basically everything between turn 2 and the stadium section needs to be changed, and the layout inside the stadium could stand to be improved as well. There should be few logistical problems making changes, so all it needs is the willingness to make them.

Why thank you :)

The T3 hairin thing was a vague hope that the waterside could be used for Monaco-esque yacht moorings... but depending on how much space of that shipping port can be negotiated for use there's a whole rage of possibilites for that Docklands Loop section.

I do feel relatively optimistic about the future of the venue. We are used to seeing the best modern street circuits like Singapore Marina Bay or Baku being slapped down with huge investment to be a world class facitilty immediately. Yet some of the best classic street circuits like Long Beach have evolved over time to slowly claim a permanant place in both the road infrastructure and local economy. Red Hook is an area repeatedly cited for potential regeneration and indeed the old piers off of Brooklyn Heights, a little north of the circuit location, have become a waterside park over the last decade or so. If FE can keep hold on the venue and convince local authorities that a long term race can be of finanicial benefit to the area, they might be able to weave thensevles into any regeneration plans and slowly make it a world class facility. In fact I beleive that's sort of how we got Long Beach's now iconic fountain section.

Yeah that's an intersting one. I agree there should be soe sort of change and I'm interested to see what they come up with. I may find some time to have more speculative fun with that one too...

Bit of circuit nerdery for now though. Here's the track around the time it opened as Magdalena-Mixhuca, before being renamed Hermanos Rodgriguez.

A distinct lack of trees...

Great stuff.
Your practice spot was just perfect, was great to see the cars coming out of the corners drifting.

Did you enjoy the experience??

It was different. First time I didn't need my hearing protection. Second the cars do look awesome in person. I thought watching them in person they look okay, but in person, impressive. The crazy part was the seating. When I picked the seats I didn't realized how great the view seeing the Statue of Liberty. Plus seeing the ships going by during the race was strange and awesome. During the race the cars sounded real quiet and luckily I had the big screen in front to see the action. Overall it was pretty good race, but it was really strange because it was quiet not noisy. If everything workout next year. I'll be back. The real treat was meeting and talking to Emerson Fittipaldi. I couldn't believe it and still can't believe weeks later. Also I got a picture with him and hopefully get a frame for it next week.
