McGrath’s car was a 1293 cc Cooper S special saloon. In 1972 he raced it in some of the Hepolite Glacier and Forward Trust special saloon championship rounds, plus a number of non-championship special saloon races. In the Autosport reports of the 1972 special saloon races at Oulton Park he’s most often mentioned as having retired with some mechanical problem or other, although he did manage a second place overall when the car held together, so it was obviously quick.
The only mention of him being involved in any incident was in the Forward Trust round supporting the F1 Oulton Park Gold Cup on 29th May, where the report says he stopped at Clay Hill after a couple of spins.
