Is it time for Helmut to doctor the come back of Prodigal Son? After fantastic drive to German GP podium and becoming new dad can Daniil's life get any better? Is it time for Marko to swap Kvyat back to Red Bull?

I vote Yay. Sorry Pierre. I think Kvyat would be ideal 2nd driver at Red Bull at his moment. He knows the team, he beat Riccardo before so he got speed. And finally why bringing him back to F1 with STR if not for situation like this when RBR needs safe pair hands to bring points?

I wouldn't be surprised if they promoted Albon to RBR either.

How do I add a poll please?

I’m not sure you can. Try editing your op and seeing if you have manage poll options open.

You can.

Go to full editor and then on the side there is a add poll option.

I think, at this time, if RBR want to challange Ferrari in WCC they need experienced driver not a rookie. It is too soon for Albon to be promoted - as it was too soon for Gasly.

I'm glad you chose the check boxes rather than the radio buttons, because I wanted to vote yes and no.

Gasly has just not been up to standard this year, but even Kvyat got a whole season in the top team.

Fortunately my votes still register. It's not cheating, it's seeing both sides of a story.

This was a kind of race to base no driver decisions on. They have loads of data from normal conditions that is indicative.

I dont see how Red Bull or Kvyat would have anything to lose by this tbh. If he is not good enough he would just go back, obviously it all depends on how much faith you have in Gasly. In the past two weekends he showed promise over one lap.

Would it not be like for like swap though? Fast inexperienced for fast and even more inexperienced.

My point is that they have speed in Verstappen and they need 2nd driver to bring points on Sunday. Not show flashes of speed. Albon and Gasly can mature at STR.

Five races for Kvyat in the Red Bull, five races for Albon in the Red Bull and ten races for Gasly in the Toro Rosso.  :p

I liked Gasly a lot previous years. Even in GP2.

However, Red Bull have to start considering the consequences. They should be in front of Ferrari in the WCC with a performing second driver. That's going to cost them bucketloads of money at the end of the year.

Furthermore, if form like this continues for the bulls they have to think about mounting a WDC challenge. 61 points is not impossible, but only if a second driver can stell a few points here and there as well.

WCC

2 Ferrari 261

3 Red Bull/Honda 217

WCD

3 Max Verstappen 162

4 Sebastian Vettel 141

5 Charles Leclerc 120

6 Pierre Gasly 55

I think Daniil can bring that Red Bull in 6th place everytime, and score podiums on occasion. Something that Pierre is somewhat struggling with.

I voted yes.

However the driver management appears a bit too hasty at times. Kvyat matured well and had an incredible comeback all things considered. This could mean Kvyat was too early promoted into the RBR seat the first time around.

Who knows if Gasly would be fine in 2 years time? (Gasly is 23, Kvyat 25)

I'd oust Pierre for this reasoning.  Too much fighting for 8th-10th.

I'd wait until the end of the season, and then give careful consideration to a change. Albon should be considered to be in the hunt as well.

As much as Gasly has been a massive flop so far at RBR (I don't think he was particularly strong last year either, but the surprise speed at Bahrain coloured his entire season favourably), I don't think Kvyat is the one to replace him. I'm glad that he seems to be in a better mental state than before his enforced break from F1, but we saw in China earlier this year that he is still capable of stupid moves and I don't think he'll ever fully be rid of those flaws. What he is now is a very good yardstick for Albon, and if he continues to develop well I could see RBR giving him a go maybe next year, maybe the year after.

Carlos Sainz is just a few points off Gasly despite driving what we know is an inferior car to Red Bull. To be honest I'm not sure why Red Bull moved Sainz over to Renault and then cut him loose, he's been developing nicely and has always been a good solid points-scorer. At McLaren he looks even more mature and is getting very good results.

I voted nay because I don't see what RBR's options are if they were to dump Gasly. They would either be taking a similar punt on a one-season old driver like Albon, be bringing in Kvyat who seems to have matured but has inherent flaws and we cannot be sure that he wouldn't suffer under more pressure at the 'big team' like before, or they look to an outside hire but that is something that would be against the structure of their entire racing division.

Problem with Carlos is he did not get well with golden boy Max, too competitive. IMO Kvyat in this regard is safe. Basically they don't need another Max, they need home grown Bottas.

Actually it would be good if Verstappen team mate was also on todays podium. Vettel if it is time for a change for him. And Kvyat is at the moment better than Pierre. So swap Pierre and Kvyat until the end of season. Then re access, 2020 maybe Vettel.RB would be second in the constructors now instead of third.

It changes every race doesn't it? I say hold Gasly until seasons end, and asses driver market.

To put Kvyat or Albon in that Red Bull next to Max mid season with no testing could be suicide. Let them have a full off season to prepare.

Other than that, the market may open up in a few months. Experienced guys like Hulk could be available, Perez or maybe Mag.

no, Gasly's speed has been improving lately, in particular in Silverstone he was good, so give him some more time, Gasly is just in his second full season

He was saved with SC's... he could have been easily lapped. They started 2nd and 4th.

I would swap Kvyat and Gasly. Gasly is clearly out of his depth. Give him a year in TR and he can develop. Otherwise it could end his career being brought too quickly

Daniil probably earned that seat today. But I still think they should wait for the end of the season. Otherwise what they get is 2 drivers in unfamiliar cars.

Also I think RB would do well to start showing more signs of being more patient with their drivers. Too much "sink or swim", too trigger happy at sacking drivers. We always praise Mercedes for getting rid of "blame culture" when it comes to staff as a key element of their success, well surely this to some extent could apply to drivers as well but RB do the exact opposite, bin drivers right left and center. I know Gasly is approaching sackable levels of performance but they should give him the season IMO.

Definitely promoted too quickly.

Toro Rosso had two rookies last year too.

Seems occasionally beating Brendon Hartley led to overconfidence on Gasly's part...

Gasly hasn't done enough and that one race in Silverstone isn't going to save him. I give him this season and then he is out.

We have seen twice now what happens when red bull promote too early. But then again, look at how well norris is doing as a rookie.

I'm more impressed by Albon rather than Kvyat this season. Shouting for a Gasly exit and to let him be replaced by Kvyat is just shallow minds speaking.

I voted yes but there is not real replacement so I dont think its going to happen. Kvyat did great this race but overall this season is not outshining Albon who's still a rookie. Albon is too soon to put in the Redbull he will face the same issues Gasly is having and this might end not one but two careers before the end of the year.

Only if Redbull can get lets say Ocon I see something happening but I doubt Mercedes is going to let that happen.

Gasly deserves time. It's ridiculous that, after less than half a season, there is talk of replacing a guy who showed a lot of promise in a Toro Rosso with... a guy who shows promise in a Toro Rosso. Give the guy a break and give him a season at least to show his worth.

Gasly is obviously underperforming, but maybe that Red Bull car is not that good as it looks in Verstappen's hands. Max is brilliant this season which makes Gasly look even worse. Kvyat had whole season to prove himself. They should give the same chance to Gasly. He might surprise us in the second part of the season.
