I think the old adage of a broken clock still being right twice a day is appropriate.

F1 still has big problems it needs to fix, which, given the circuit and the forecast, we're likely to be reminded of again tomorrow. We're just fortunate that circumstances have meant things have gone against the usual script recently, but it doesn't mean everything is fine all of a sudden. Any time the favourites (in this case, Mercedes) don't win, then it feels like it's been a good race just because it's something different.

After the utter tedium of France, we were owed some decent races. There's not many other redeeming qualities for this season so far, so long may it continue. At least we might get some changeable weather at Spa...

In case you haven't been watching for long, your post perfectly describes the last 30 years of F1.

If the Red Bull regularly starts being the car to beat then Hamilton will have to score maximum points he can, but he has a huge points lead that he can defend

dont forget Mercedes crushed the opposition at Silverstone and Paul Ricard which wasnt long ago, and may well have won a dry German grand prix. I still think its Hamiltons to lose.

You forget Max wasnt able to show his true pace for LOTS of laps at Silverstone because he got stuck behind Lec.
Paul Ricard was pre-RBR-frontwing-update.

Paul Ricard was the turning point, the post Paul Ricard RB15 is a much better balanced car.

My exact point. Verstappen is as much defined by his machinery as anyone else. The Red Bull is seriously fast now and arguably the best car since Austria. Which is bad news for Gasly because he's being left further and further behind.

Not sure if I follow... If the RB is seriously fast now Gasly should not be left further and further behind???

What's to follow? Gasly is underperforming big time. I don't see where he's been closing the gap to Max, if anything as the Red Bull has become better... the gap between them has increased.

1 second off here, halfway through the season. Nowhere near good enough.

Dont think that Vettel was the saviour in the early noughties. What is happening now with Hamilton is the same as what happened with Schumacher, people got so bored of him winning that they cheered on everybody that would actually could give him a run for his money. I like Marc Marquez a lot but his dominance in moto gp isn't great for me as a viewer either, i cheer on Rins, Vinales and Lorenzo, when he gets his stuff back together, aswell because you want to see a proper race for the win. Its in human nature.

The difference though, is that with bike racing the rider makes a big difference to performance. Cars, especially F1, it's all about the car, and the reason why we have had the Ferrari/Schumacher years, the Red Bull/Vettel years, and now the Mercedes/Hamilton years, made even worse by team mates not being at the same level. All the F1 records since approx. mid 90's, such as race wins, poles, championships, don't mean much at all really in terms of driver, only car/team combo.

I'm not sure but A3 might be referring to the Lewis comment at the end as the funny bit

I found the whole clip pretty funny. Max just got pole with Honda and he gets asked a question about the Renault engine. What answer would anyone expect but a dig at Renault.
