Not been widely reported by the mainstream media, perhaps because it doesn’t suit our political narratives, but there appears to be some unrest in Chile at the moment including in Santiago. Hopefully this won’t affect the FE race otherwise the break between rounds 2 and 3 could be even longer.

It's all over the mainstream media here.

Yeah I've been cautiously tracking that one - hopefully the situation improves soon enough for the people there. Would be a shame if it does disrupt the ePrix, I really like the Santiago venue.

I think FE may need a contignency plan though if they do not already, the gap is undesirable enough as it is. Punte del Este has been used for that once already, and I'd even consider hiring the use of a circuit like Oscar Gálvez (within the city limits Buenos Aires) if it were possible.

Valencia Post-Test Notebook
https://e-racing365....-test-notebook/

another interesting thing from this was...

***Formula 2 racer Louis Deletraz visited the Valencia paddock on Thursday. E-racing365 understands that the Swiss driver held several meetings with senior team representatives discussing a possible appearance at the 2019-20 Formula E rookie test which is likely to take place after the Marrakesh E- Prix on March 1.

There's a really good MGU sound analysis video and what it means for the team's design choices by Stuart Taylor (Chain Bear on YouTube) who's been at Valencia testing.

Edit: Also, how can anyone not think that the sound of these going by under regen is just plain cool? It's like something out of Star Wars.

As I was scrolling down and quickly glanced at the first picture I thought it was a Mahindra, obviously later saw the big Nissan font on the side.

One of the reasons I wish it was still Renault, the yellow/blue cards looked so much better.

Fudgesicle.  Just like I feared, now we have EIGHT red/white/black cars on the grid!  At least the Mahindra has some blue in the right places, but it's gonna be a bitch when we have Nissan, Porsche and Audi running together...

The Mahindra stands out nicely, they use a much brighter red and the car comes across as mostly red and blue from the side. The Nissan, Porsche and Audi really will look the same though, so damn bland.

Porsche & Mahindra looks quite different from Nissan tbh
The only minor clash could be with Audi.

This is that one WEC season where Toyota, Porsche and Audi had all the same livery all over again.

Hell no, we already have enough red on the grid as it is.  A Pennzoil Penske kinda livery would be much better.    ;)   Unfortunately, GEOX's colors are black and white, so I doubt we can look forward to anything interesting.  Let's just hope they don't add RED to the black and white GEOX livery!

I actually have to agree, I don't think the clashes are too severe. There's enough individuality in execution even if the base colours are rougly the same.

Turns out it's related to the new telemetry systems designed to police the team's control software.

FIA to Crackdown on Software Exploitation

https://e-racing365....e-exploitation/

"The FIA is set to crackdown on teams attempting to exploit technical regulations in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship this season.

The majority of teams are believed to have used software last season to mimic traction control behavior on their cars."

"Manufacturers will have to declare their throttle map ‘corridors’ which the FIA will tighten up on. This will include the switching of power settings within a 30-second window."

New ‘smart antennae’ supplied by Magneti Marelli were used by all Formula E cars at Valencia for GPS, telemetry and radio and are fed back directly to the FIA technical team.

“We have telemetry for us, we do not give anything to the teams,” FIA circuit championships director Frederic Bertrand told e-racing365.

Strange! It was a 20 minute video documenting JEV's journey through FE from FE themselves. But it appears to have disappeared from their YouTube page.

Oh. Thinking about it there was an editing error with had 'this effect needs GPU enhancement' popping up on the screen for half a second at two points. That will probably be why. It will likely be re-uploaded at some point.

GEN 3's Super Fast Charging idea could bring back Pitstops

https://www.autospor...ack-fe-pitstops

Looking more likely now.

I have nothing against pit-stops, as long as the races are faster, longer & cars are lighter.

Gen 3 could be a total game-changer

Desperately so.  Why do they let graphic designers loose on these liveries.  Back when ordinary joes decided on colour schemes, we had bright and imaginative liveries.  Now we have a succession of black, grey and a dash of red.  Don't they have any other colours in their palettes?

I guess it will all depend on the feasibility, but would be amazing to see if they can get it to work. And this new CEO seems to have the right understanding of the product.

"The teams and manufacturers, as well as the FIA and FE, are already involved in discussions over the nature of the Gen3 car - with all-wheel drive, revised battery shapes, torque vectoring and higher overall power levels among suggested ideas."

All of these would be interesting too.

Looking back at Vergne's early FE days I'm really glad he came to FE, stuck around, struggled to the top and made the series his home.

It's the kind of story that the series needs in its drivers.

I thought all-wheel drive had been discounted early on? Something about it not being innovative in the slightest now, or was that just the Gen 2 car?

It was defintely discounted for Gen2 which I think was largely to avoid a really radical change so early on in the championship's existance... the curerent car is really just a heavily refined Gen1 in basic concept when it comes to it. The other thing to keep in mind is that (I believe) the first tenders for Gen2 went out by the end of Season 2 and awarded to Spark by the start of Season 3, so the key decisions on what Gen2 was roughly going to be were taken well before FE's future felt like it was secure (which generally seems to be considred as the end of Season 3).

Gen3 sounds like they have much more on the table and with a very different context to the decision making process than Gen2 had. The series is in a very different place to 3 years ago when Gen2 was scoped out, with a strong selection of manufacturers and much more security. All wheel drive might be on the table because a motor on each axel is becoming a common EV architechture for manufacturers, but I can't say what the chances of it's adoption in Gen3 are.

It's the battery shape and placement that I'm really curious about. Up to now it has basically been bolting a big battery in a lump where the engine would usually go in a ICE single seater. It will be interesting to see if there's some layout choices that can only be done with an EV. A lower and flatter battery in some way is what I might expect to see.

We should know what final eatures to expect from Gen3 in early 2020, according to this article (which is mainly abut Lucas di Grassi's suggestions regarding future cost control):

Noticed this recently - the Formula E display in the foyer at the ExCeL centre has a subtly different track layout than the initial images at launch.

EGc-Qt-FJWk-AAzt-Z.jpg

The orginal (below) - double hairpin (T10-11) has been flipped the other way around, the right turn past the hotel (T14) is less tight, T16 seems to be more rounded and the pitland has been brought inside parallel to the star straight rather than out on the waterside terrace thing.

Have to say it looks a tiny tiny bit better than the double hairpin - tight chicane - fast chicane of the first iteration. Hope there's more revisions like it!

This is almost certainly not the answer people want to hear but... I made this diagram more or less to scale based on the most recent concept... ExCel is above, Santiago is below.

They should just make it a simple chicane.

Oh my.
Yeah, why not a simple chicane?
That is going to cause carnage & useless red flags

Hopefully it's wide enough
