I kind of expect a stunning livery work from Porsche.

I loved their Le Mans 2019 GT special edition.

To be honest I see only two options.

One - the white+red+black livery they used in WEC lately, completely unchanged for continuity, to show that it's a proper Porsche racing effort.

Two - more or less the same only with some predictable twist of adding the generic "electric blue" somewhere in there. Which would be very lame - it's electric so you gotta have some blue, right?

That's a nice peice of news. FE Twitter confirms the team will run as 'TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E'

As for the livery, even if they did kind of merge the recent Porsche liveries and the Tag Heuer colours they'd end up with a sort of white/black/red/green combo... which would be a very similar set to a certain other VW owned, former WEC rival on the grid!

Not all that long to wait and see though.

I'm expecting something boring purely so if they come up with something brilliant then it'll be a pleasant surprise

On a Porsche note though, they just got their Taycan EV around the Nordschleife in 7m42s. And got it to do 3425 km in 24 hours at a high speed test track.

Well then, I'm sure you'll never guess what camouflage colours it did said performance runs in...

On a Porsche note though, they just got their Taycan EV ....to do 3425 km in 24 hours at a high speed test track.

That sounds impressive until you do a few sums.  They say the car ran at 195-215 kmh, so if we take 200 as an average, they would need just over 17 hours to cover that distance.  Presumably the nearly 7 spare hours were taken up by the 'quick recharging halts' that they mention.  Maybe not QUITE as impressive as it first sounded... ;)

I'd say that depends on your reference to be honest. Compared to the performance of EVs on offer over the last few decades it is quite impressive, for example   ;)

We're sure to see more of this kind of news with road EV endurance tests in coming years, just like we always have really (Jaguar's XK120 breaking the 100mph for 24 Hours barrier springs to mind) so we might as well get used to the current EV performance figures as a benchmark. Audi recently did a 1000 mile (well, 995) trip on actual roads through 10 countries in 24 hours with their new e-tron EV. Shameless PR stunt, sure, but when the public perception is still all too often that they can't even go 100 miles without an 8 hour recharge.... maybe a sort of necessary one. Furthest I've personally had to drive in 24 hours was about 700 miles (shared and with breaks but I wouldn't want to do it too often) and this tells me that that trip is now doable in EV. That's all that's being proved here, plain and simple.

Interesting perspective here from a former FE skeptic:

Don't agree with absolutely everything in there but an interesting read nonetheless.

It is an impressive effort certainly and as a veteran Porsche fan, I am glad it was them and not the smug Mr Musk's brigade.  It is not the EV that I am unimpressed with, it is the PR people who contrive to make the event sound like it was a flat-out non-stop record, when a little examination shows that it couldn't possibly have been (nor in an ICEV either of course).

Maybe I am oversensitive about PR material that is....let's say, economical with the truth.   And that's in any field, not just EVs.  Somewhere, if I could find it, there is an analysis from the 1990s of F1 team claims about their new cars.  Each year, the chassis was 25% stiffer and the engine 20% lighter.  I worked out that one engine weighed 10 kgs after five years of such claims.

Then there are advertisers.  One that really annoys me at the moment is Vauxhall, which claims to be 'a British brand since 1903' completely ignoring that it was flogged off to General Motors more than 50 years ago, and is now owned by the French.  And then there are those ads for womens' toiletries which claim that '87% of 46 women agree' even though that means that 0.62% of one women disgreed.*

*calculation not checked

Of course, even that Taycan Nürburgring lap record touted as an electric record in the headline is really just the record for a four door electric saloon. Which also isn't quite the same.

The fact that it is only a livery reveal makes it a bit meh for me.

But excited still because it kicks off the new season.
