Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Piëch, the man chiefly responsible for the Porsche 917 and Audi Quattro, and who turned Volkswagen from a struggling company into a world leader, died suddenly last Sunday:

I hadn't seen this: hard to believe that such an important loss seems to have been missed by so many. He was a true enthusiast.

Obit in The Times yesterday. Great achievements, yes , 917, Quattro etc  but reportedly   a vindictive and unpleasant man . 12 kids...  you'd need two Audi Q7s for that lot ...

I doubt that.

He was an enthusiast! And he was a true car guy! Yes, he also was tough but he saved VW, Lamborghini, Ducati, MAN, Bentley and made Bugatti possible again! He was a man with visions and a fantastic engineer who was able to turn his visions into reality.

The automotive industry owed him a lot!

May he Rest in Peace!
