https://www.motorspo...rtunity-return/

-Lots of other good, cheaper, younger drivers, potentially not so many top seats.

-Can he pull a Prost '93?

-How late could he afford to make a decision?

-Would there be a chance to see car potential with enough time so that even a surprise mid-field team could be a potential destination?

-What are the chances that the pecking order will significantly vary with the rule change to make this worth a shot?

-With limited testing, how quickly could he get up to speed to mount a theoretical challenge?

He would return tomorrow given the right conditions = winning car.

Top 3 teams have their team leaders set. McLaren or Renault might have him, but probably wont be winning much.

Only reason I would like to see him back in 2021 is to see how well he would compare to Kimi and Michael who I think lost a step (Michael even more) during their time off.

Hmm.. I'm kind of mixed, sure I'd love him to return to F1 in a competitive car, but then I'd love him to race a full indycar season also  ..can I have both, indycars in 2020 and F1 in 2021?

I can only see him return if the 2021 regulations cause a 2009 esque shake up of the grid. Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes won’t take him, so he’s dependent on a team like McLaren or Renault getting things right like a Brawn and Red Bull did in 2009.

Unlikely he would return in any of the current top 3 teams. With the young generation coming along as well, and Alonso becoming more unproven with each 'sabbatical' season, there are bound to be at least about 6 drivers ahead of him in the queue on the driver market before 2021. Some midfield team may take a punt on him, with the PR he brings and the fact that midfield teams normally don't attract top drivers. Would Alonso really take that gamble to return to F1, hoping that some midfield team could be competitive? Sounds like a long shot.

In the year he will turn 40, there is no chance of this happening.

I don't generally post what I hear from people I know, last time was when I heard the Honda engine was **** back in January 2017 (maybe some folks will remember?), but I've heard Renault is once again trying very hard to hire him for 2021, so maybe?

But I don't think it's gonna happen unless he gets a seat from Mercedes or Ferrari, and I don't see it happening.
