Just been looking through some old photos online and also using a book - Endurance Racing at Silverstone in the 1970s & 1980s by Chas Parker and came across something a bit unusual.

The sponsorship of tobacco in 1986  is not present on any cars.  But the strange thing is that it did appear later on at Brands Hatch that same year.  Plus it was back again the next year.  Any answers to why this happened would be appreciated.

Just a guess, but a possible explanation could be that Auntie BBC were televising the Silverstone race... and they didn't like tobacco ads

I've just checked on the BBC's Genome website and they didn't televise the Silverstone 1000km that year, or show it later as highlights.  Possibly they intended to and changed their mind at the last moment though?
