There's been a lot of talk about the top drivers in F1 and the 3 names that are getting most attention are Lewis, Charles and Max.

Who would you have in your team?

I... don't know?

It's definitely not Leclerc, he's not consistent enough yet, still a few too many mistakes and his race pace v Vettel has been inconsistent, sometimes quicker like in the last 2 weekends, but often a shade slower. He's getting closer to Lewis/Max level but not there yet. But between Lewis and Max? It's difficult.

I've been saying through this season that finally I'm confident Max has grown into the best driver in F1, he's been insanely quick v his team-mates (a struggling Gasly obviously made him look good, but he's been getting quicker and quicker year on year and was already clearly faster than one of the very best drivers last year) and had seemingly toned down his overly-aggressive racecraft making fewer mistakes. Whilst Lewis seems to have gotten just a tiny wee bit slower this year IMO, being outqualified by Bottas a fair few times. He's still clearly one of the quickest in F1 but less magic than he used to be, whilst Max absolutely has "electric pace" written all over him.

But now Max ****s up two race starts in a row, showing his over-agressive weakness again, I can't imagine Lewis doing the same, and I don't know anymore. I think Max is the quickest of the 2 at the moment but still less of a reliable pair of hands. Does Max's extra pace offsets the lost points through extra crashes? I don't know, it's close, as it stands for me they're tied for best driver of 2019. Ask me again at the end of the season.

I'll vote Max because I think the tendency is for him to get slightly better as he approaches his peak, and Lewis to get slightly worse as he gets further away from it, and the question is for 2020..

If I have to get a driver for one season it would be Hamilton. For three seasons however I would start to look at Verstappen. I reckon Max is already as quick or even more, but experience counts a lot.

Leclerc has the same age and showed not as much as Max yet (less experience also), so he would be more of a gamble in the short run.

Pretty stupid, but also easy. Ham Ver Lec in the order you say. Not enough has changed to deviate from their experience and results at hand.

It's hard not to vote for Hamilton... objectivly he's a known quality and he's proven he can deliver over many season and with different teams.

Lec & Verstapen might well turn out to be amazing drivers and at the same level of Lewis but they still have quite a lot to prove in F1... before we can definetly conclude that they are in the same league.

"As good as your last race" still a thing. Leclerc doesn't deserve to be on that list at the moment.

We’ve already got threads for this kind of stuff:

No need for threads to pit drivers against each other for no reason.
