It is incredibly sad and distressing to read that Allan is suffering from dementia and is living in respite care.

Currently half way through his autobiography "Climbing the Mountain", bought it only last Saturday, written with (or by, I presume) John Smailes, which I am enjoying a lot.
Very insightful, he earned the hard way from scratch. Quite a character, clever and determined.
I did a search on his name last weekend and found about his predicament. Very sad indeed.
