I thought it was great, in a cheesy Spinal Tap way. Lots of fun. Did you like it?

I liked it about as much as I like the Mario Kart beep sounds at the start of the race, by which I mean not at all.
Posted 27 October 2019 - 21:11
I really liked having it on the podium. Not sure about having the driver coming up with it but hey-ho.
That was the best bit! It conjures the hope that the mechanism will jam one day and the winner will have to awkwardly climb up, like out of the lift at Grace Bros department store.

I see this whole post race thing as some sort of "make up" to hide the dull race. I guess it was for the WDC decider that finally didnt happen, but still...
This sould be about racing and it should be the most exciting thing, not post race shows.

Hahahahaha wtf, only just seen it
Could only have been better if Tiesto had come along with him in the elevator, playing a remix of the British anthem whilst doing some fake scratching.
Bet market is now open as to which celebrity will follow in Will Smith's steps and make an awkward radio communication with Lewis next week at Austin.

Have to be honest and vote 'Don't know'. as soon as the top 5 passed the flag, I turned the tv over.

No, unnecessarily theatrical. Surely, they got good shots for the Netflix show (which I don't care).
At least they played Bizet's Carmen, so not all traditions were ignored.

I thought it was great! Not sure it would work so well without an animated driver though - just imagine Kimi coming up looking disinterested...

Yes it was a bit of fun! No harm in cheesing it up a little, it adds some atmosphere to what is too often a formulaic ceremony.
It was more hamming, rather than cheesing...
Posted 28 October 2019 - 02:15
Yes - it's a party at Mexico so added to that feeling.
Posted 28 October 2019 - 02:49
Some added Fireworks would set it off nicely.....

For Mexico it fits in rather nicely, could have used more Rey Mysterio & a lot less Mariachi Stig. It could also work in the other race up next, the Americans do love a gimmick but it would be quite wrong in Europe I think.

I knew Grace Brothers (Bros) was familiar, now I remember why.

I'd love to see this kind of podium with Kimi winning the race.

I put no because for me it's a step on the slippery slope that leads to WWE. Not a fan

It was so cheesy, it made my sphincter cringe, But at the same time, it was pretty awesome - it's the exact sort of showmanship that would get Central America more into the sport. Maybe.

In general I'm really ambivalent towards all the flashy celebrations and presentation introduced lately. I completely understand why they're doing it and I'm not really opposed to the idea itself, but most of the time it's just really forced. There's no heart behind it all, it doesn't feel natural, and doesn't fit with the overall atmosphere. In one word: desperate.

I'm pretty sure Hamilton wasn't supposed to rise with his car, but that made it all the more hilarious. He came outta nowhere!
He was actually,
From Adam Cooper's twitter pre-race
1. Race director Michael Masi confirms our story about the winning car on the podium: "The car finishing in 1st position... must then be pushed to the podium and onto the ramp which leads to the car elevator. A mechanic must sit in the car to steer it during this procedure."
2. "The winning driver will remain underneath the podium and stand next to their car on the platform. The platform will then be raised when their name is announced."
3. "Following the champagne celebrations, the participants are requested to move to the front of the platform and stand next to the winning car for a photo opportunity."
Well, okay, next to the car, not on it, but still xD

I agree, although I dont find it too bad here and there. Yesterday was good for a laugh at least.
Though the selfie-stick guy was pure BS otoh.

At one point I thought Vettel was going to spark the prick in the black suit clean out, its a shame the driver of the day voting had closed because he may have edged it. Just for clarification day of the dead isn't till next week..don't Mexico have anything else worth celebrating?
Posted 28 October 2019 - 11:18
Yeah what was even with that dancing selfie stick Luche Libre guy? So random and made no sense. The whole thing was waaay OTT, it's cringey enough when Americans do it, it didn't seem in keeping with Mexican traditions. The rising car scene would have jumped the shark if Hamilton was holding up a "Still I Rise" banner in the air.
Posted 28 October 2019 - 12:22
The selfie stick guy was stupid, looked daft and basically he looked like a tit. Wish Vettel would've properly pushed him over. The less said about the shite sponsor trophies the better.
Posted 28 October 2019 - 12:22
Haha yep, one extreme or the other. Either kimi who would look extremely embarrassed or Ricciardo that would ham it up to 11.I'd love to see this kind of podium with Kimi winning the race.
Posted 28 October 2019 - 12:32
I see a fair few people complaining about the podium being too showy and glitzy - but if I'm honest, I think that it's the dead-pan, serious, no-fun demeanor of the sport in general that puts many people off watching F1. I get it F1 is serious business - but why does it have to be so serious on the outside? I've come around to the idea of making the show, at least on the surface and in terms of presentation, more of a spectacle.
