Geez how lucky is this one in the Toyota 86 support race. Another reminder of how unpredictably dangerous motor racing can be. That could have been VERY bad. Thank god it missed all those track marshals. Those guys in the ute were lucky too could have easily landed on top of them. Driver is ok they said.

yep, that was a big one and I wonder how long the delay was as there was an armco repair job for the Aussie marshals to do.

What was the cause of the accident?

To me it looked like Iafolla was just a bit wide and a bit taily coming through T6 and then trying to come back on line for T7 the rear of his car clipped the front of the car just behind him which sent him off the track.

The commentator had just talked about how the tyres would be a little bit cold in relation to (I assume) another incident that had just happened previously, so possible cold tyres were a contributing factor. Sandown with it's long straights is well known for being a bit tricky with tyre temps at the start of a race...

That armco barrier was like spaghetti.

Weird place for a crash, but still.

Yep very poor tbh. Hopefully this incident will prompt some upgrades but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Need to flatten the undulations in front of the Armco, and increase it to at least triple height.

how come there is no catch fencing some of those marshall posts are so exposed around the track considering the marshall's who have died over the years Monza 2000 Melbourne 01 you would think they would make fencing around tracks mandatory to some extent. No matter what grade the track is by FIA standards

Let's not egg him on.
