As known, although not in detail at all yet, FOM funds will be redistributed differently from 2021 onwards. Meaning the top teams will get less money and the back markers will more compared to the current Concord agreement.

Add to that the budget cap, and the three top teams will have considerably less money to spend.

For Red Bull, might that be a way to make Alpha Tauri into a full fledged top team?

They will get a bigger part of the pie in price money due to the new distribution of FOM money, and the money that increased the budget cap at RBR could be invested in the second team. Thus increasing the chance of running 4 cars at the top, get even more price money, increase chances of WCC and WDC championships while basically spending the same amount as they do now (roughly).

Your two cents?

I would say the other way round.

Make the STR to the lower grid for younger aggressive talents, and to race with no fear of commercially failing in the F1 Business, and to get chunk of Monet that arrives to the lower grid.

THIs means, STR to be at around between 5~7th team...

When talking RB, that's effectively 3 cars (in two different liveries) doing everything to help maximize the race for 1 car.

Also, how is that different from now?

Please give 1 example of the Toro Rossos and the 2nd red bull working to help Verstappen?

I can give you tons of examples of the TRs giving free positions to Vettel. Just check the 2012 title desider in Brazil ... The guy did everything he can to loose it to Alonso, and TRs and Schumacher didnt even try to defend ... I can give you more of that if you want.

Please do, 'cause 2012 is 7 years and almost 150 races ago.

True! Ocon is Merc junior  :p  But the topic was about TR not racing against RB back in the days. In recent years its not that easy BTW, Max had some great battles vs Kvyat I think.

Well they have 4 cars, but except for the Max/Dan period, there`s a clear number 1 RB car and the others are supposed to help him.

There is a world of difference between TR (and the second RB) getting out of the way of their #1 driver and them actively helping him by blocking rivals etc.

The former happens all the time. I have never seen a Sauber-Ferrari battle a Ferrari...have you?

In fact, I can actually remember a few times where the #2 RB was defending rather vigorously against the #1 RB. Or a just demoted RB in a TR defending against the new #2 RB......

What I meant is that Vettel never had a hard time passing TR, unlike lets say Max, who had a great battles with Kvyat, I can remember Singapoore for an example.

the midfielders are so far off and know by now that it makes no sense to try to defend that everything looks like free passes :p

if the field is closer again we might see this again, though.

Can we not derail this thread in the first 100 metres by going over grievances about drivers letting non-teammates by?

I'll quote your whole post, Reddington, to bring us back on topic.

I hadn't thought of this side effect of the budget cap, and my two cents is: it sounds great. Because the budget cap level is a compromise, it may not have as much effect on other teams as we hope, but in this specific example it could reallyl work. That assumes Mateschitz would actually want to do it, rather than save some euros.

Won't next year's Toro/Alpha car be this year's Red Bull? I hope that'll make them closer to the top 3 teams.
