Toro Rosso is now only 6 8 points behind Renault before the last race. Can they pull of this upset, before the team starts under a new name?

Edit: After waking up saw that Ricc gained 2 points because of Hamilton's penalty. 8 points is probably too much, but let's see.

Might be possible, considering they've a Honda at the back.

If there is any justice they will beat Reanult. We saw what Reanult did in to TR engines in 2017

Not with Kvyat in the second seat.

It's too late now anyway. Ricciardo will gain a position after Hamilton is penalised.

Renault will be quick in Abu Dhabi, too, with the long straights.

A valiant effort from TR, but they need another miracle in Abu Dhabi. It was Japan, Mexico, USA where they lost this.

Secured P6 though.

Well Renault can't hobble STR this time with 'convenient' engine problems...

6 points is a quite a lot for the midfield teams. Normaly place 1 to 6 go to the 3 top teams 7 and 8 to Mclaren. Not very much renaining points on the table. I expect Renault to stay in front.

It’s strange - I’ve always been totally Team Renault in their saga with Red Bull, thinking that RB are a smug, self-regarding operation who treated their longtime engine partner terribly and deserved to get a kicking this year. But now I find myself really hoping Toro Rosso beat Renault.

Both things can be true... RBR acted terribly towards Renault, but Renault themselves are very cynical and don't appear to have many friends in the paddock... Abiteboul is a very unlikeable figure IMO.

The main problem at Renault is not the engine.

I don't see it gonna happen, But no matter the outcome, I can't make up my mind what I prefer.

The team Toro Rosso is way more sympathetic to me but on the other hand it would make me feel sad for the two drivers at Renault who I like more than the Toro Rosso drivers....

The only way to do so is to put Max on the STR and make the Red Bulls work for them.

Don't forget the Torpedo factor, which might come in handy if targeted properly!

They should do this and save Max the trip to the FIA gala.

Don’t think so. Abu Dhabi track is at sea level and not at altitude, so the Honda engine will not be as strong as in Brazil.

Even if they do so, supposing they can put Max in 5th with an STR, that would still require Leclerc to win, something not that likely.

I think Renault will hold on. Toro Rosso have capitalised on the crazy races but I'd bet that Renault get the better results in Abu Dhabi.

Not with Kvyat in the second seat.

He's not been at his best since Gasly returned. Or fatherhood.
But if you need man man to seal an unlikely podium he's it. Remember 2015 and the car he had to do it in. He Vettel'd Ricciardo. Not all due to better reliability, there was real from the back racing involved.
