I think that is true for the other side of the argument, people conclude Ferrari isn't the fastest anymore in qualifying that must be the regulation change. That is the highest form of oversimplify in a complex sport like F1
Which is exactly what the "can't get the tires to work" argument is - it's an oversimplification masquerading as a complex argument. It ignores (or in this case, hopes that people do not look deeper into) all of the important aspects involved in getting tires to work, especially the impact engine power has on those aspects. As you say, motorsport is complex beast.

The car likes this track and Hamilton likes the track too. It really was a flawless lap imo.

Cant shake of the impression that the PU clarifications slowed down Ferrari.
That, or they were outdevelopped by Mercedes (who stopped working on the car the last part of the season (!))
Me too thinks you are onto something there fella!...But hey ho..what do I know..

So apparently Bottas took part in qualifying today because Mercedes wanted to push Albon into qualifying on Softs (basically one more driver increases the likehood of him needing Softs to get through Q3). Didnt work, but it makes sense.

Sainz vs. Gasly showdown will be great to see.

Since the clarifacation Ferrari is nowhere, must be coincidence
Just as well it's the last race of the season and next year totally revamped regs hey!..

Still Leclerc out qualified Vettel.

Only chance of anything other than a Hamilton cakewalk tomorrow is a bad start, with no team-mate to protect him. Thing is, Mercedes are still so far head that he’d probably breeze back into the lead if he dropped to seventh on the first lap.

I can't remember Hamilton making any bad starts since 2016...

They sold the F2002 for 5.9 m lmao
How much does it cost to just run it for a track day?
Because I damn well hope it wasn’t sold to a private museum.

If the Merc's race better than they qualify (as they tend to do), Lewis will probably lap Albon.

Over here depending on the track it’s US$5-10k a day to rent the track. Tires are $500-600 ea for Avons that size. Depending on the fuel it’s $15-20/gal. IIRC cars from that era got 3-4 mpg. If you raced a historic race the track costs would drop quite a bit. You’d need to be licensed and entered, probably around a grand an event. I don’t know offhand where it could run in the states. I don’t think HSR allow them and I haven’t seen that vintage GP series around in several years. Those were from the 70s and 80s. Might be able to get it into the Monterey Reunion or Goodwood over there. I’d reckon if one had the dosh to buy the car they’d have no problem renting (at least from a monetary sense) any track available.

Has anything been mentioned about Hamilton setting a purple final sector while there was yellow flags?
Was this under investigation?

What? Those Dubai 2020 Expo adverts aren't yellow flags you know?

How is the tyres compared to F2? A lot of drivers hit the cliff in the F2 race.
Easy one stop

There was a short yellow flag when Seb spun in Q1. Lewis was right behind him. His last mini sectors weren’t purple though.

track temperatures will be different as well, with the F1 race starting just before the sunset

If Hamilton reaches S3 in front of the pack they won't see him again tomorrow.
Don't jinx it.
He has an old engine as almost everyone except Bottas. Some of those engines might call it quit, before the end of the chequered flag.

I've got a feeling that it'll be a Hungary situation where Ferrari are absolutely nowhere, so Red Bull will try and dupe Mercedes into a 2 stop, just because.Pirelli says so too, so it will be a 2 stop
Anyways, we need a race thread methinks. Doesn't need to be anything pretty. I'll see what I can do

Seeing a Merc going bang might be the only redeeming feature of this 'race'.

Bottas needs to think about the race. Madness again on the Merc pit wall.
Cant he just change tyres. I mean he starts from the pitlane so what penalty could they give him that makes a difference

Alfa did that with Kimi at Monza and it resulted in a stop/go penalty so not exactly an advisable move.

Just cos its something Lewis hasn't quite managed (should have won from the pitlane once)
