Does anyone here buy this on a regular basis please?

www.magnetomagazine.com

I bought the first issue and thought it was ok, although at the price decided to then only buy individual issues if the content related to my specific interests.

The latest edition has an article about Bernie Ecclestones collection. I'd be interested to hear the views of anyone who has read it please? If a good proportion covers front engined GP cars then I may be tempted!

I've never seen this one before! I subscribe to 'The Road Rat' which is more about 'car culture' and is worth a look (also not cheap). I may buy the latest issue of this and give it a go. Thanks!

I too subscribe to The Road Rat (waiting eagerly for the latest issue) and like it a lot. Quality writing, even if the layout is a bit pretentious for me at times.

It can be pretentious, I entirely agree, but you're right - the writing is excellent, and the subject matter so far has been varied enough to be of interest - at the price! I'm not sure Issue 4 is ready yet, not got mine! I just ordered an issue of 'Magneto' - £10.50 postage free (UK) seems pretty reasonable to me.

Oh my word that is utter verbal garbage; one for Private Eye's 'Pseuds Corner'. I shan't criticise The Road Rat for pretentiousness again.

On a weekend when we discover that TEN Publishing is closing 19 of its 22 motoring titles in the USA we should be grateful for new magazines such as Magneto.

https://www.foliomag...rint-magazines/

Along with The Road Rat it give readers here in the UK something to inform, entertain and challenge.

There is also Automobilsport and 000 in a similar vein...........I hope they all prosper.

Magneto's editor, David Lillywhite, won the Bentley Editor of the Year award, presented at this week's Guild of Motoring Writers Awards Dinner

I have all four issues of Magneto and have enjoyed it.

If I have a criticism, it’s that the articles lack a certain depth. I would like to see long form articles in the style of Automobilsport. There are plenty of writers capable of this, so I suppose the question is: Are the readers out there?

Waayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too subtle for me: if so then I'm relieved to hear it.

The article about Bernie Ecclestone's collection only has more than one paragraph on a few of the cars and the only front-engine car that applies to is a Connaught.  So taking your criteria of "a good proportion" I'm afraid you would be disappointed.

I like Magneto but agree that all the articles are fairly short and without any great depth.

I also have the first three issues of The Road Rat and agree with those who use the word pretentious because it was exactly that word that leapt to my mind when reading the first issue.  That said, it is 250 pages an issue and the print size is tiny so definitely not skimping on the word count and it actually feels like fair value even at the £10 an issue I paid.

I always thought a pi-take was a circular argument...

I believe the author was a producer or writer for the Clarkson-era Top Gear.

I just assumed it was a cut-and-paste from Octane.
