The single-driver format is fine, it worked mind-blowingly well for Trans-Am for decades before other issues killed the series off.  But the issue for me is that the market is saturated for GT3-class events, so unless this series pays a lot more money to the teams, I don't see why many would bother entering, especially if you're asking them to modify the cars in an expensive way.

I guess we'll see, but I remain very skeptical of the viability of the DTM going forward, in any format.  As Payasyourace said, it's very hard to see what question the DTM answers.  It used to be the German Touring Car championship, but hasn't been for nearly 20 years, and hasn't had proper touring cars involved for nearly 30.

Because the driver gets individual glory rather than as part of a crew....I reckon that very much gives this a USP among all the other GT3 series.

Well, the cars using both of those features will never be racing in DTM again, so I guess you'll be happy.  But there may also be literally no DTM events ever again, so it's at best a mixed result for you.

Sure, but who's paying?  Racing runs on money.  Pro drivers may want the glory, but unless they've got someone paying them, they're not racing.  And the teams aren't going to modify their cars from normal GT3 spec for DTM races unless the DTM somehow pays a lot better than SRO or ADAC events.  And how they will is unclear since there series is bleeding cash, has no TV deal and in this post-pandemic world, there seems to be little or no sponsor interest.  So, there's no money coming in for teams to run the cars and pay the drivers.  The current DTM is funded by the manufacturers.  Those manufacturers don't want to do that anymore.

If we're talking a series for rich pay drivers, fine.  But if so, no one is going to watch.

I actually really like the idea of a GT3 series with shorter races and without car-sharing - it might work.

Plus more horsepower and non of the driving aids like TC or ABS. Should be interesting.

The actual other GT series might even learn something from the cars in DTM spec.

What's the deal there?

Is the BMW uncompetitive? Is ART out of their depth in DTM?

Also, Treluyer. Nil point? Is he full time?

Treluyer was the stand-in for Loic Duval. ART is doing the best they can with what they have – that being limited experience, limited data and not even enough people to man a full pit-stop crew. They have four mechanics plus one on loan from BMW. Since nine people are needed for pit stops, their head of operations and three engineers are joining in, resulting in much slower pit stop times. On Sunday, Kubica‘s pit stop was 8.3s, while the works squads are up to two seconds quicker. And while they have improved, that was still a good stop for them.

The only races I managed to witness this year - Hockenheim. This track was made for these cars, and these cars for this track - I swear.

It was a delight to witness Rene Rast get his 3rd championship. Legend. Poignant. I am so very happy for him.

Will follow his next step to FE with absolute support and will do my best to catch the races next year in the new format with keeping my skepticism on the down-low. Cheers y'all.

What a horrible year of racing. Can’t believe I watched all the races. Two manufacturers. Audi at the front and BMW at the back. Can’t believe they didn’t boost the BMW a bit to make races a little more interesting

You would've if they didn't shoot themselves in the knee being completely abandoning their big and committed Youtube audience.

This weird season has become so tightly packed that I haven't seen a full WTCR or DTM race all year despite being a huge fan of both series. But congrats to Rast and Müller, they were the class of the field this year. Shame about those stupid mistakes from Frijns, he could have been in the championship battle till the end, but nevermind.

DTM for like 15 years now, just barely isn't exciting enough to follow and watch everything live.

I can even remember last year, Zolder was marvelous. There have been plenty of great seasons these past couple of years, well worthy of attention. Especially 2018. That was fantastic.
