Silvio Moser’s faithful mechanic, Beat Schenkerbschenker on TNF –, passed away on Christmas Eve. He was 76 years old. R.I.P.

Unfortunately the link to the announcement does not seem to work on this forum.

EDIT: Now the link is working. Good to know.

So very sorry to read this. Beat’s posts here were fascinating, especially about his time with Silvio Moser. I do hope that all his efforts to prove to the world that he and Silvio’s widow still owned the genuine Brabham BT 24/3 will not now go to waste. It would be a travesty if the - er - ‘replica’ were ever to be accepted as the genuine article.

Very sad news...

I always thought he must have been older than that, but starting out preparing such illustrious cars at a very young age is commendable anyway.

Very sad to hear. From a selfish perspective I'd've loved to have seen a full autobiography as the back of the grid is not an area given much coverage.  Especially having to race out of the motor racing desert that is Switzerland.  RIP, Herr Schenker.

Very sad news indeed. Not only was Beat the fountain of knowledge with Silvio, he helped with a number of other Swiss driver related conundrums.

I shall miss his enthusiasm and dedication. RIP

Very very sad to read about Beat's loss this morning.

I followed his posts on gpx.it, the last one no more than two weeks ago about a new book on Ticinese drivers.

A Zürcher transplanted to Lugano, he was the historical memory of Ticinese motorsport, unflinchingly devoted to Silvio until the end.

R.I.P., I had no idea who he was, too many names on my mind.

I met Beat & Silvio at Crystal Palace when they raced the Brabham BT38. I have pictures but has the system changed over the years for uploading?

Very saddened to have seen this.

I too corresponded with Beat when I joined TNF.  Helpful, hugely knowledgeable, honest and straightforward – what better?

Giraffe’s (Tony’s) picture is quite something so, Richie, maybe ask one of the moderators if they could post what you have – just a thought?

Thanks Beat.  RIP.  Your enthusiasm, knowledge and kindness touched many hearts.

Sad news, sad.

I got in contact with him several years ago, while preparing the page dedicated to Silvio Moser for the Motorsport Memorial website.

We had many e-mail exchanges during the years and Beat sent us a large number of handwritten sheets, in his unmistakable Italian or in his characteristic Swiss/English, talking about his great great friend Moser, his racing and his fatal trip to Monza for the 1974 edition of the 1000 km race. He was still shaken by the loss.

I have heard that the Moser family allowed Beat Schenker to be interred alongside his brotherly friend in Moser's grave.

Ciao amico Beat!
