What's that sound?  Bloody Marys mixing?  Calendars ripped from walls and replaced?  Resolutions being observed?  Well, probably, but also the changing of the year means it's time to contemplate the new IndyCar season.  Why wait 'til March?

screen-shot-2019-12-09-at-4.31.09-pm.png

Only ten weeks to go!  Plenty of time for:

1.  Josef Newgarden to plot how to add a Borg-Warner trophy to his collection of Astor Cups.

2.  Scott Dixon to work on his conversational Swedish, maybe while he changes diapers.

3.  Pato O'Ward and Oliver Askew to remember all the new names they'll be learning at Arrow McLaren SP.

4.  Roger Penske to finish his to-do list of potential changes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

5.  James Hinchcliffe to find a ride.

6.  Foyt to properly calibrate the equipment they'll be using at this year's off-season tests.

7.  Coyne to announce he's signing Ferrucci.  Or whomever.

A great new class of rookies.  Returns to old venues.  Bring it on!

Fine opening thread! Ten weeks sounds a lot less than 3 months. *Cries in a corner.. three months..*

A question for PiperPa ...
I’m in Copenhagen for the COTA race.

Any chance I can see the race at some place near the Vega ?

Thanks, Mark for providing a venue for non-race banter.

It could be a great, great season.

Dixon turns 40 this year too.

He'll clean up, another championship for sure.

I've been to Copenhagen quite a few times. If I have to name one, in fact the only, sports bar I've been to it is The Globe. It's been reviewed on Yelp quite positively and I can concur:
https://m.yelp.com/b...globe-københavn

It's not really near your named location. But it's only a 30 minute walk, an 8 minute drive by one of the many taxi cabs available, a 10 minute bike ride or about 15 minutes by subway (and a 10 minute walk) according to Google Maps:

Thanks Beri.
I’ll check it out.
But I’ll also wait for the local Lars 411info on this.

You'll have to pick the place where the screen is the biggest and the beer as cold as an Alaskan winter day. I understand.

Great intro, good looking schedule, love that the great tracks are all back, well mostly.
Looking forward to seeing how McLaren’s entry back into Indy goes.... and how Dixon copes with two hot young teammates.

Wow the Vega is still around.  Not a bad gig.  Last I was there about 15 years ago during a grip and grin one of the bar staff found out the Englishman had an all US band and crew and went off on a completely unhinged rant about W and such.  It was pretty dramatic.

Vega has some of the best catering of any rock venue.
That’s all I remember...

I’ll need a place close by with ViaSat Motor on their satellite package.

If you find a sports bar you should be able to sweettalk then to show it ;) Indycar is shown on one of the TV3 sport channels, but unfortunately it is with a Danish commentary. I can’t say I have any experience with Copenhagen sports bars.
I’ll ask my sister if she has any recommendations, she lives nearby on Østerbro.

I cant’t wait, just 10 weeks to go.

Great stuff... I appreciate any help.
Is ViaSat part of TV3 sport?
Or do you have 2 Indycar broadcasters?!?!?!

Also PiperPa.
There was a place called Kennedy’s that had a full Sky Sports package. Please ask sis if that place is still up and running.

Viasat owns TV3/3+/3Puls/TV3Sport1/TV3Sport2 and what ever the other channels are named.

Kennedy’s Irish Bar is still in business afaik.

Edit, I’ll ask my sister saturday or Sunday, she has to her final exam of the semester this saturday. Please remind me if you don’t get an answer.

and how Dixon copes with two hot young teammates.

Dixon handled Rosenquist last year, and the other one is Marcus Ericsson.

He'll still comfortably rule the roost at Ganassi.

Working on cars under red flag conditions leads to expulsion under new rule.

Good change, I'm not really understood of American way of repairing wrecked car which was left on the track.

Also the fact that every position matters causes extensive repairs to happen.

Add O'learys to the list, you might have to ask for it, but they have multiple screens, so usually they can change to what you want. It's only an issue when there is a big football game on, most because the supporters are so loud you can't hear anything.

Longtime Foyt team member Cecil Taylor recently passed away. He was a familiar face in the Foyt pits from the mid-1960s. Condolences to all the team along with friends and family.

Might have reason to be in the olde US of A during the Indy GP weekend... Looking at tickets today, I see no mention of garage/paddock tickets. Is that because that's covered by the bronze pass for the month of May?

I would suspect that is correct based on the ready availability of these passes at other tracks.

Shame, wouldn't be any point me getting one then if only there for 2 days!

On the flipside, $77 for the weekend to sit in Penthouse E is a bargain!

Here is a welcome rule change that, ostensibly (and hopefully), will speed up the restart process and allow getting back to racing more quickly:

https://racer.com/20...g-for-restarts/

See, it wasn't all "commericals this" and "America that"   :p

I've been to independent short track dirt ovals that were better at getting cars back in order and races restarted (and I've also been at some where it was interminable). Kind of shocking that Indycar was doing this. It seems very USAC.

IndyCat is enjoying a vacation, giving thought to adding a teammate.

Stewie :Just so you know....
Bronze Badge does NOT allow admission to the GP race day.
You still have to buy a GA ticket to get in.

Cool. Sounds like if I make dates / work coexist this week then it'll be a penthouse E ticket for the weekend for me and that'll do!

That's what happens when you split an IndyCat in two. It'll appear strong at first, but it will eventually die.

Nah, sounds too much like Underdog.

p521338_b_v8_ad.jpg

Then Karen would have to share space with Sweet Polly Purebred.  Tennessee Tuxedo would want equal time.  The Canadian faction would demand Klondike Kat.  Savoir-Faire would be, well, everywhere.*

Really, one animal mascot is enough.

*And somewhere people not raised on 60's U.S. cartoons are wondering what on Earth has happened in this forum . . .

The one thing I would really, really like to see is a more equitable purse distribution for the Indy 500.

Top 3 things I'd like to see

Greater prize money across the events
Third or fourth OEM
IMS backed bus service from downtown to track on 500 weekend
